Also, what do the clans think of "lesser" cats (loners and kittypets) becoming a leader? I know we have Fireheart/star, but hes a special case of meddling and being on good terms with others. Would a non-clanborn cat need similar circumstances to prove their leadership capabilities? How about as Seer?

Back to our regularly-scheduled nonsense. 

Most cats would immediately respond to this with “That’s ridiculous, there’s no way a kittypet/loner could make it as a seer or leader!” The truth is that the Clans support anyone who works hard and dedicates themselves to their community, and if a former kittypet/loner actually made it to either position, there’d be a simultaneous sense of pride and embarrassment. Like, a kittypet fucking beat you to the deputy rank. A kittypet, Frognose.

However, let’s keep in mind that for as hard as a prospective, Clan-native deputy works, a former kittypet/loner is going to have to do double what their Clanmate does to even be considered a standard warrior. There would be some intrigue if they buckled down, mentored with proficiency, and actually got the respect to give directions to others with no protest. If there’s some competition, the native cat would probably be picked first naturally, but if a kittypet/loner becomes leader? That’s honestly worth some bragging points. “Look how fucking good we are at making warriors from nothing! We made a kittypet into a strong leader and we’re fuckin’ prospering! Eat shit, RiverClan!” 

To be fair, though, it’s harder for a kittypet/loner to become a seer than a leader. Seers are thought to be born into their role, and someone from the outside would naturally know nothing of StarClan, or the Three, and teaching them is never going to be the same as a kitten knowing these things since they could hear and walk, and being naturally drawn to it. Some believe that StarClan would reject an outsider seer, but most just agree that they’re better off as a standard warrior.

If that's the case, I love to hear what Shadowclan and Thunderclan (or heck, all the clans) think of kittypet toys, since no doubt humans have tried to play with some of them at one point or another. I would think theyd wouldnt be fooled by most, but would they be tempted/curious with more life like or weird ones (laser pointers, ball and tracks, etc)?

Kittypet toys are generally a total unknown to the Clans, but every once in a while a cat will see one or have a human try to get them to play. They have absolutely no idea what to do with them. I mean, a good deal of them look like corpses of prey, but they smell like humans, and what on earth is that round thing that looks like a brightly-colored moon? What’s the purpose of that? It makes a noise, too, what the fuck?

A kittypet would have a hard time explaining the appeal of such things, since distrust of anything human is so ingrained into a warrior’s mind that anything they jiggle around from a stick must be dangerous. RiverClan would kind of get it, since they bring shiny human things for the kits to play with in all the time, but no one else would be tempted by them.

Did you have a plan to explain more of Bluestar and Oakclaw's relationship/kits and how she succeeded over her rival in taking the deputy position? Or is there a seperate post in the making on the plans you had with Bluestar in a more detailed way (and other characters like you did with scourge)? And please dont take this to be expecting such! I look forward to all the world building posts you have mind for us!

I may? I’m a little hesitant to post any more stuff on the Redux fic, just because I’m honestly pretty relieved that I don’t have to think about it again. If enough folks express interest, I might talk about that stuff, but for now, I’m unsure.

aberrantartificer: Hmm... well, -step names are formulated based on stereotypes, so a Foxstep would likely be pretty conniving and crafty, perhaps preferring the company of a few select Clanmates or being standoffish and apathetic towards other cats. Maybe they move and act like a fox, rearing up on their hind legs to play or having a pretty deep yowl or a “creepy” voice (you’d be hard pressed to find a Clan cat that likes fox sounds). Fox- and Badger- would have pretty negative connotations when paired with -step, honestly, but if it fits, it fits. 

Anon #1: I have to be honest, I don’t know for sure. Anyone out there got the answer?

Anon #2: Well, bearing in mind that leaders don’t get nine lives here, if StarClan were to give some sign that a leader shouldn’t be the leader, there’d be a big hullabaloo and the Clan would have many, many meetings on the subject. Whether or not the leader would inform their Clan really depends on the cat’s personality. If they don’t tell the seer, the seer will find out on their own soon enough. 

Anon #3: Oh, absolutely. The stuff mentioned in the Amendment posts are the most typical behavior, and a lot of it gets exaggerated. ThunderClanners can’t make or take jokes and don’t care about anyone but themselves, WindClanners are stiff and emotionless, RiverClanners haven’t worked a day in their lives, and ShadowClanners are fucking weird. Maybe they’re part magic, I don’t know. They just sit around and look real sad. It’s unnerving. There’s more stereotypes, but those are the baselines.

peredhil-loki: Super interesting questions! Name-changes aren’t incredibly rare, as you can tell from the allegiances, so it’s common to have at least one in camp at all times. A Clan with a lot of name-changes would be considered tough as hell and weirdly unlucky - why does StarClan keep sending them shit to deal with? What’d they do? At least the Clan can handle it, but seriously.

Do the cats joke about death like some of us humans do? "Ashfoot, if you [insert whatever cats would warn them against doing], you're going to die." "Fuckin niCE 😎" or is it a really big nono and/or they take it super serious?

That’s actually a hilarious concept, I have to say. 

The Clans don’t really joke about death, though they do have a sense of humor about disabilities and career-ending injuries. Cats who were moved to the elder’s den early or have a crippled limb may reference their handicaps for the sake of a joke. It’s actually not uncommon for a wounded cat to tease apprentices and kits about their staring. 

Death is a more serious issue, however. Except in RiverClan, anyone who jokes about the dead will be chided. A cat who implies they’re suicidal, even if they’re just kidding, will have all of the Clan on their backs, watching them in case they try something dangerous.

shadowthepiratecat: Oh, RiverClan, for sure. It’s way less common now than it was in the First Age, but the occasional loner can buy their way into the camp for the day if they’ve got a great story or two to tell. And any cat who attempts poetry (not actually succeeding, mind you, but trying) earns respect and friendship almost immediately. 

Anon: Luckily for him, his owner wasn’t that responsible! The most he had was a collar, and you saw where that went. 

aberrantartificer: Well, I guess this would fall under Deux’s jurisdiction, but I know neither of us are inclined to spoil anything, so... frogs with their brains removed actually have better reflexes than frogs that are untouched!
