Day 5/31: "Abiyoyo"
A childhood favorite of mine…
Abiyoyo is a South African folktale of a giant ferocious beast that would terrorize villages and steal away children who misbehave…their are many stories and songs that were made about this creature. But the most famous story of all time tells the story of how a young boy and his father have defeated the Abiyoyo by simply using music and magic…

anyone else get absolutely terrified by abiyoyo as a little kid? i was like tiny tiny. i think it was on reading rainbow? like the ground shaking. i was so scared i’d look out the window and he’d be coming to eat me. it aired in 1986 way before i was born so it would have been a rerun… which doesn’t help place the year. i think i was 3 though bc my little brother would have been a baby at that time
did abiyoyo scare you?
yes I saw or read it age 4 or under and was terrified
4 or under and yes I found it a bit scary but I wasn’t terrified
no I was 4 or under but I was soooo brave and it didn’t scare me
4 and under it scared me at first but then it had happy ending :)
I saw or read it when I was 5 or older and it didn’t scare me
I saw or read it when I was 5 or older but it still scared me
5 or older and it terrified me
how the hell are you remembering being younger than 4 or 5?
I’ve never read/seen it
I have never heard of abiyoyo
