Megan said when it’s your own mother you use ha-haa(?) and then okaasan is more for other people’s . My mom has literally never heard anyone use ha-haa, but it sounded familiar to me so I looked it up and supposedly it’s a level of politeness thing?

I think it does depend on the person, and that’s true though now that I think about it ;v;

ok so i did some research and apparently ha-ha is the humble way to speak about your own mother to someone outside of your family, while okaasan usually refers to someone else’s mother (if ur talking to a friend or stranger or smt). like if its just you and ur fam, u can use okaasan/otousan (or just kaasan/tousan) to ur parents, respectively. 

but guess its just the thing about speaking humbly about oneself/family to others! (tho honestly humble form/honorific form is so confusing im getting flashbacks from last semester lmao)

oh, but using okaasan for someone else’s mom is right, I think. 

i think that’s only when you’re talking about your own mom to someone else? but p sure some ppl refer to their parents as haha/chichi or okaasan/otousan. guess it depends on the person? :0 ye it’s kinda confusing but the latter two seem to be used often?
