10- does your oc have a best friend?

not at the moment! i'll eventually create a few friends for him, but he's a very solitary individual where he is in the story right now. he's friends with laurel, though it's mostly pity on her part. he's friends with frost, but lying to them about who he is. he's always got his twin brother, thomas, and they're fairly close, but things are about to start falling apart for elias and thomas won't be so happy with what he's gotten up to...

13- what makes your oc laugh?

not a lot makes him laugh genuinely, because he's sort of trained himself out of expressing joy outwardly. his father was not a nice guy, and expressing happiness around him was always posed a risk. of course, there was a chance he wouldn't notice, or would be fine with it, perhaps even joke himself, but it was just as likely he'd yell or throw you out of the house if you joked about the "wrong things". so elias has perfected a polite laugh to match the humor of the people around him, to fit in and appear normal. to get him to laugh for real, you'd have to catch him off guard... i think the first time frost hears it is when he's stoned and watching old youtube videos. he missed a lot of pop culture moments because his dad was. well. a cult leader.

15- what is your oc favourite food?

elias really struggles with food. he really likes food. he'd like to be better at cooking and baking. but he feels really conflicted about it, because he's fat, and he's got a lot of learned fatphobia going on in his head. pleasure, generally, feels wrong to him (he is catholic + has ocd to boot), so he takes smaller portions than he wants and denies himself treats all the time because he thinks he has to do something to earn it. he doesn't unlearn that behavior for..... quite a while lol. but... he really likes flan.

ough... EVERYTHING? i love the aesthetic i love the general vibes i love the playstyle its all so fun!!!!! i never thought i was really a stealth game person until i played dishonored and it was so rewarding

BELOVED MARINUS… their story is still in flux but it’s basically the tombs of atuan except if it was in pandyssia. they’re the outsider’s special little guy they’re god’s favorite they are so so scared all the time. and they love whales and the ocean. it is their first day out of doors and papá forbade mirrors lest they fall prey to vanity.

☕ translations of your favourite books

Inch resting question, Small R, you know I'm very opinionated about translations I love you!!

Here I have some considerations about two of my favourite books:

Bacchae: I got my first little copy of this tragedy when I was fifteen and I am very fond of it. It's in Italian, has a very nice and poetic translation which is probably my favourite because it manages to keep the greecity of the original text in a way that I prefer to others. I don't know exactly how to put this feeling into words (surely there is an academic way to speak of it), but to me there is nothing more beautiful than to be able to feel the original language even in translation, and for me the best translation for Greek and Latin literature maintain their character in the way of structure and vocabulary. This is by the way the main reason I found the English translations I read so far disappointing. The one I usually refer to (forgot the translator and publisher, wow) is not half bad, but there's this incredibly annoying addition of stage directions!! Aurrgh!! And to name names I don't like Anne Carson's work, which I may be wrong but it's more a rewriting than a translation? Surely it reads like such. Her Bacchae is frustratingly bad: there are cuts everywhere and I cannot say this enough the poetification of the text makes it plain and ugly. Way to wipe away once again the idea of god-induced madness staining a man and being passed by the touch like a disease. Great, truly.

Note to the People: if anyone has a good English or German translation to recommend please do!!

Crime and Punishment: This one I needed to actually read from several translation at a time because this one single Italian translation was at traits not very good. But as the second one I got (super funk edition with drafts and notes written by the Dostoevskij himself!!) was better, it didn't offer the super interesting notes about the original Russian text and the explanation of the many clever word plays and puns, which is sad. Two examples: in the first translation a note indicates that "Dostoevskij uses the recurring adjective dikij, which properly means wild, but in his writing it assumes the meaning of extraordinary, fearsome, delirious, etc." it's a little extra but lets the reader appreciate a peculiar choice of words that would be otherwise lost; in the second translation "batjuška" is actually translated into "dear". Little things that make me a little sad, because once again it missed the uh russian-ity? Whatever. Thank God I'm not mentally well and kept switching in between books.

At this time I also picked an English edition, but it was unfortunately Garnett's and we all know that's not good. Characters in the middle of 19th century St. Petersburg speaking like British dandies? No thanks. Pevear and Vocholonskij's work in translation is far better and in general they are my favourite couple for English editions.

I also have two different translations to German, which I have quickly read without brainwork behind it.

actual slow burn - not 2k one-shots labeled slow burn - is so rare and so good. even if it's pure fluff i do love a slow burn. i just wish i had the patience to write more of it myself.

How I feel about this character: i like him a lot and i am so looking forward to seeing more of his shenanigans in bachelor route p2. and when i play changeling route ooo i wanna know his secrets so bad

All the people I ship romantically with this character: okay there’s a friend’s oc butcher that i like him shipped w.... i’m cool with like andrey/daniil and andrey/grief and andrey/rubin and really andrey w p much anyone who isn’t his brother. none of that nasty shit near me thanks.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: i like the idea of him being friends with eva more than i like the idea of them being shipped together romantically

My unpopular opinion about this character: he’s more than just the fun partytime brother, i think he has just as much depression as peter does. he clearly has self-worth issues since he considers himself just the battering ram for his brother’s sucess. i think he’s very sad.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: idk i’m actually pretty okay with most of his canon storybeats! i’d have to think more on it if there’s something else i’d like to see... ideally i’d like to see a story (like in fic) where he comes to grips with how poorly he thinks of himself and recognizing his worth beyond what he does for his brother... but with canon i am more or less fine.

assuming i can’t bring anything conventionally used for rescue or survival (i.e. matches, a tarp, a radio), i would bring a notebook, my medicine, and a stuffed animal to keep me company!
