So I’ve said previously that I really appreciated how much fun it looked like Wil Wheaton was having playing the character in Leverage that he did, and then I recalled the TBBT character as well (the only two things I’ve seen him in since Star Trek), and it made me think.
I have a friend who’s a Very Serious Actor, in that he’s very passionate about being an actor, but like, literally the nicest guy I’ve ever encountered. And he always chose absolute trainwrecks of men to play in plays and shows he did. He told me once that it feels good to pretend to be the type of jerk he never would, that acting like that gives him the experience without the shame and guilt he’d feel if he acted like that IRL.
It’s just an interesting thing to think about, that what I see of Wil Wheaton here on Tumblr makes me think he’s really a Very Decent Chap, but likes to play assholes on TV, because that catharsis is valuable, and I think makes you a better person. Being able to experience life from multiple perspectives is valuable. It helps you become Not a Real Asshole IRL.
