On the 12th hour of the first day of October 1989, 43 women around the world gave birth. This was unusual only in the fact that none of these women had been pregnant when the day first began.  Sir Reginald Hargreeves, eccentric billionaire and adventurer, resolved to locate and adopt as many of the children as possible.  He got eight of them.  Originally number Seven, Andromeda's ability to copy anyone else's powers should have made her number one, but she struggled to control it.  While theoretically she should have been able to mimic any power so long as she'd seen it used before, and to use multiple powers at once, Andromeda struggled to copy anything unless she could see the person whose power it was, and could barely handle one let alone multiple. 

She'd long since stopped hoping to improve her rank when suddenly Ben dies, and Andromeda finds herself reappointed as Number Six, and the only power she doesn't seem to struggle to use?  Klaus' ability to see their dead brother.  Unable to cope with it, Andromeda travels halfway across the world, and the further she gets from Klaus, the weaker her mimic gets. Finally separated from her family, and the ghosts of her past, Andromeda is ready for her fresh start.  For over a decade she lives like she's normal; no superheroes, no mimics, and no ghosts, but her father's funeral forces her to return to all three - and now with the added bonus of the apocalypse.

Number 5.5, The Girl was The Boy's twin.  They were, for all intents and purposes, one person.  Known by her brother as Quinn, Number 5.5 was the team's psychic, able to read the minds of anyone that she could see, or anyone that Number 5 could see.  But when Number 5 disappears, The Girl freezes.  Her body shows no signs of ageing or decaying, as if she has simply stopped.  But when her brother returns from the future with warnings of an impending apocalypse, Quinn wakes up.  And she remembers everything.

Taylor Bell was not one of them.  But after her parents' mysterious deaths, only days after Number Five disappeared, Reginald Hargreeves finally adopted the telekinetic teenager.  Known as Number Five, The Replacement, Taylor has never had any doubt as to where she stands in this family.  She's all too happy to turn her back on it all and leave as soon as she can, but then her father dies, she returns home, and the boy she was brought in to replace turns up, warning them about the apocalypse.

Ooo tell me about the Hargreeves kids! What are their numbers and powers? Where are they originally from?

Ahhh thank you I love talking about my kids!!!!  So for some slight geographical context, I picture the Academy as being vaguely Northeast USA, probably New York (if anything has ever been said about the location someone let me know!!!) because I keep seeing people refer to Allison moving across the country to hollywood - idk if it’s canon or fanon but I’m rolling with it!  So here we go!!!

Hargreeves Children:

Alice: Number 8/The Heart.  She’s an empath and Reginald got her from Oxford!

Andromeda: Number 6/The Echo (got “promoted” after Ben died).  Her ability is power mimicry, and she’s originally from Toronto

Audrey: Number 8/The Charmer.  She has the power of hypnosis, and is from Mexico like Diego (when they’re young she often wonders if Diego is actually her brother)

Braeden: Number 8/The Brain.  Her ability is to know everything about anyone/anything that she touches.  She’s from New York, born to a very elite family who had absolutely no interest in having a child

Joey: 00.08/The Keeper.  Her powers are panmnesia, perfect recall, and having an edetic memory, which basically all just mean that she remembers absolutely everything from her life, and she’s from Paris

Kylie: 00.00/The Bomb, her power is energy manipulation and creation!  She’s from Alaska

Lindsey: 0.5/The Void.  Linsdey’s power is power amplification/nullification (like other superpowers, not like electricity power), and she’s from Cardiff

Lorelai: 4.5/The Reaper.  Lorelai’s power is called necrokinesis (or “death force manipulation”) which basically means that she can suck the life out of anything, although she has a very difficult time with controlling it on people.  I believe that Robert Sheehan confirmed that Klaus is German, so Lorelai is German too!

Quinn: 5.5/The Girl, Quinn’s power is telepathy but she’s also learned to actually talk to Five in his head, and has been able to, when she’s extremely distressed, turn her emotions into a psychological attack.  I can’t remember if Five’s origin has been confirmed, but I hc them as being from somewhere in the US

Teresa: The Trial, Teresa doesn’t get a number since she’s part of a different experiment/class.  Her power is retrocognition, which is basically reverse divination (she can touch something/someone and see pieces of their past).  She’s from wherever the Academy is, since Klaus was still living at the Academy when he got her mom pregnant and she was born (not that he knows it)

Ophelia: 00.08/The Healer, Ophelia’s power is healing and cellular regeneration, and she’s from London

Taylor: Number 5/The Replacement, Taylor’s powers are telekenisis and matter manipulation, and she’s from Romania

Athena: AP/The Myth, Athena is a technopath, born and raised in the same city as the Academy

Dorothy: Dot has no powers, and was born in California (although she was a nurse in Vietnam when Klaus met her)

June: June’s power is time manipulation, and she’s from wherever the Academy is 

Kiera: Kiera’s power is that she’s a banshee, and she’s from Seattle but was moved to wherever the Academy is when she was a teenager

Virginia: Virginia has the ability of writing manifestation.  She’s from Montreal, until she seeks out Reginald and the Academy to try to understand her powers!

Task 02: Dark

Although the patronus had been a rare sight in the Black family home, it perhaps would come as no surprise that boggarts were a much more common occurrence. Given the age and size of the estate, boggarts found it easy to hide out in its many nooks and crannies without even needing the philosophical similarities to their hosts.

She was five when she first opened the wrong wardrobe door in a misguided game of hide and seek. Immediately, the room had plunged into pitch black darkness. She could not find the light wherever she turned. In her panic, she forgot which direction was the door and which was the wardrobe. Her scream was heard by a house elf, but her mother did not come for her before the terrified child’s throat had been left raw. There was no riddikulous charm. One moment she was in the dark, and the next her mother had roughly picked her up - ignoring Andromeda’s grandmother shrieking at the two of them for sullying the Rosier name until the moment the door slammed shut.

There was no comfort. She was scolded for sticking her nose in places it did not belong, and was sent off with the house elf.

Third year came and when the students began to discuss the boggart assignment in excited voices, Andromeda was remembering the weight of that impenetrable darkness on her chest and how it had felt like she couldn’t draw in air. She was not five years old anymore, however, and the dark was no longer her greatest fear. She was grateful, therefore, when her place at the back of the line prevented her from going before the boggart in front of the class. When she stopped by the professor’s office hours to complete the assignment, she found herself even more relieved as she was confronted with her mother and aunt - screaming at her as they had screamed at Sirius the first time they had come home their first year.

So when her sixth year came and a student reported to her that a boggart had been found in one of the more unused corridors, Andromeda had assumed that she knew what she would see. She had brazenly tossed open the door and strolled into the room, not at all unsure of her own capabilities.

It was not until she stumbled upon the scene before her, that she realized how entirely unfounded that arrogance was. Nothing prepared her for the sight of Bella standing over Ted’s unmoving body, wand pointed, and the blood that was pooling over the stone floor. At the strangled sound in Andromeda’s throat, Bella turned and sneered. “Mudblood lover,” her sister snarled, while Andromeda struggled to take in air. She fell to her knees, ignoring the insults her sister was hurling at her while her head spun with heaving sobs.

It wasn’t until her hand pulled away from Ted’s still form without any blood, did Andromeda understand what was happening. In that moment, her relief could have powered any spell and so riddikulous came as no trouble. Ted’s body disappeared and Bellatrix shrank and sped through the air, voice sounding like she had sucked in a helium balloon. Bella’s shrinking form returned to the chest lying open on its side, and Andromeda closed it with a wave of her wand.

The memory of her sister over Ted, of his colorless and lifeless face, and of the blood on the stone were not so easily done away with.
