I don’t know how to tag this so I’m going to just go for infertility tw

Jemma obviously can’t have biological children anymore, which is painful for her simply because she wanted to live that experience some day (and adoption can be complicated depending on what her life will be like after shield) but it’s also something she’ll move past eventually; while in this case her feelings come first there is also a bit of concern for the man she’ll be with who might want children too, and they’ll both end up feeling that void if they can’t adopt some day

but I also kind of want to explore that with people comfortable with the topic, specifically also Jemma having been extra thorough when testing Daisy after Porto Rico not only for the obvious reasons (fearing for her life) but to make sure her body changes didn’t do the same thing to her? so consider it also a wishlist/starter call? for a thread that at least start with her talking about this problem and then the thread can develop in whatever random way we want

me having a meltdown today about the missed opportunities in shield, tech-wise:

picture this, my Jemma who goes to the field - or, you know... canon Jemma who constantly ends up in the field, doesn’t have a fighting-training like Daisy does, and in any case she and the other operatives fight people who can’t be defeated with punches most of the time, so se needs weapons and gadgets - and who likes to be prepared so people won’t have to die for her, and whose best friend is Leo Fitz, a genius, a protective genius, who already created this tech for other people, instead of going in with a taser hairclip and a shiv in her boot and hope for the best -has more taser hairclips, yes -earrings that can send lasers/be splinter bombs when taken off and opened, who recognized her fingerprints like the toolbox recognizes Coulson’s -goggles we saw in the show, who can identify things/have x-rays/read heat signature/bullet proof like Tony Stark’s glasses, and connected to the rest of her tech -a second necklace with a weapon on it -a long cuff under one of her sleeves, with the technology from Coulson’s arm (except that it’s just a cuff so it doesn’t need also the technology required for a prosthetic arm to work like a real) and that can make shield. Respond to vocal commands or to her fingertips if there is a screen on it. When the shield is open, there is also a screen behind it. It can be used to find targets to eat, so that the second cuff can be used to shoot and hit targets, Iron Man’s style. -a second cuff in the other arm with said weapons, probably also a few choices in case Jemma wants to put toxins she made or have options - needles that can put you to sleep, or kill you. -ring with a laser on it or ring with a drug so that if she punches you she can inject it on you, or with a taser on it. Or two rings. like tech we saw used in shield. or the real world. -a belt with gadgets and weapons -pants with pockets for the same reason. -boots who not only have something under, like maybe the tech that can knock someone out, but absorb the impact if she jumps off a high place, like Deathlok has. -comms but also a tracker somewhere so she can be found -possibly on missions a bulletproof jacket/vest apart from the shield in case she’s disarmed (though it would take a *lot* to take the cuffs off, like cutting off her arm). Maybe some of that technology that shows to someone in a control room if her heart is beating and stuff like that. -apart from the gun, since Jemma prefers weapons she can use to smash people anyway, having something like... an expandable baton, a bit like Bobbi, she can use to slam it on people’s heads or bodies like she used the crowbar against the primitives. And with a taser at the end like Bobbi’s? Because Jemma clearly likes them? and that would give her the chance to fight in the way that works best for her, most natural for her, without having to be lucky and find a pitcher laying around or a big lamp first. (notice how the Black Widow, with all her amazing training, still had lots of gadgets too. Tony, no superpowers, no super-training, lots of tech.) I understand that if Daisy had full powers in the show and everyone else had super tech there would be no episodes because they’d just immediately win all the time and never get hurt, but when writing and in universe there is no real explanation as to why she shouldn’t wear available tech, and also not train properly, considering that 90% of the time she’s on the field either by choice or dragged into it, and given that people die around her and she feels responsible, and that her best friend had a whole arc about building LMDs so his friends wouldn’t get hurt and he’s the guy who builds those things for a living and would want her safe too.

Also because it's Sunday, I want to bring up that it's important to me that I write Jemma as so... Into casual sex. (And I know it's weird from me, an ace and sex repulsed woman)

Because too often women who have a thousand one night stands with men are the villains or described as trying to fill the empty space left by a lack of romance or some lack of affection. Men have lots of reasons and backgrounds, and don't even need an explanation.

So I love writing Jemma as a woman who just likes it. She's really good at it, she feels no emotional attachment afterwards (unless it's a particular context), who loves being creative and the physical feelings even when she's not trying to vent or anything. Simply, whenever she feels like it, she looks for someone and she doesn't even get shy talking about it (though she can be a bit too obvious when ogling, like with Mike), which also made some hilarious threads in the past.

And her sexual attraction tends to be in terms of what she'd like to do to a man depending on his looks, which is why usually when she dates a person she doesn't feel attracted to anyone anymore, can see aesthetic beauty but since she has no interest on doing 'things' to other men she also doesn't feel anything for them. But it's not because sexuality must be connected to feelings for her, not even a little, there is no must be.

She's very sexual and has no deep reason for it. There can be deeper reasons for what she doesn't like doing, some things or positions, but when it comes to sex in general her reason is usually just: it's fun. It becomes about connecting too only when she's seeing someone.

The only problem about it is that she ended up in danger many times because of strangers (though that can happen with anyone, the high numbers raise the chances of her meeting bad people). She met weird ass people and at least on one occasion one stranger who did turn out to be a serial killer later on so she has some... Incredible stories.

(but when it comes to writing it, that's different. Still here for amusing threads where she says too much about it)

-Jemma is just as smart as Fitz -Jemma is just as smart as any male character, in some cases smarter -Jemma will not be written as less smart, especially not because she’s a woman -Jemma already struggles to be in the ‘hero’ role, she struggles with her emotions, she struggles with interactions with other people, and her arcs are not about her learning to be around people in a perfectly appropriate way. She’ll learn to be around people the way she is, adapt a little but she’ll always be the one who blurts out inappropriate stuff. Who doesn’t some metaphors or figure speech. Who suggests scary things. -Jemma is a very rare example of female character who is a genius, who has a faulty moral compass, who is not apologetic nor ‘needs to be put in her place because she’s sassy’, you love her the way she is or you don’t but you can’t change her. In and out of the verse. -Jemma can and will take care of the people around her, including men, but needs help too, emotionally speaking. Probably more. -If there is a scientific problem, Jemma is going to be trying to solve it. She’s not going to be there to cheerlead other scientists. She’s also not the best at understand what’s appropriate to say and she can be accidentally mean. The way male characters usually are. Jemma likes to be in charge, and looks down on people when she has no right to, and it’s not good (the second part, the being in charge part is fine) but it’s also a subversion of ‘female genius is always slightly less clever than a male genius and there to be his emotional support while he solves problems’. -Jemma has an incredible memory, she is above average in every area due to her intelligence and her curiosity which brings her to know a bit about everything, she has already canonically shown to be incredible at biochemistry, astronomy, alien biology, hacking, memorizing scripts, memorizing facts about nature in general. She had 2phds before seventeen, just to get those she must have finished taking her degree in her early teens to focus on one phd at the time. I checked, in the UK I’ve found that you usually can only do one at the time anyway, same as here in Italy. -It was presented as something special, the fact that she had 2phds at that age, it’s not common. not even in SHIELD. Let her have this as a sign of her intelligence too. -Jemma is NOT just a sandwich-maker, emotional support. She’s not just a genius. She’s not just anything. She’s a person, so she switches roles, but she’s sure as hell going to be focused on solving scientific problems, which is her specialty, before she tries to be just a person in the sidelines hoping for the best. She’s not the Watson to anyone’s Sherlock either. And she TRIES to help. Including helping Fitz when he’s stressing out over the job by helping him with her brain, not just with comforting speeches. He needs more than that. The work together, she doesn’t help him work. -Jemma tries to help people emotionally as well but if she gets shut down and people refuse to speak to her, not just Fitz, she’s human and she will eventually back off because upset by it. While feeling guilty because she feels it will be perceived as her giving up on them. -Jemma is morally ambiguous and self-serving at times, while still being kind. She’s distrusting, she makes exceptions for friends, she loves being in charge, she loves being sassy and getting the last word. She loves taking care of her loved ones. But she also loves science. And Fitz doesn’t need to let her win, doesn’t need to work alone, and wouldn’t want her to let him win arguments either because that’s not what their relationship is like and I refuse to ever have it anywhere near my writing. They are equally smart, they enjoy bickering, they don’t get really angry nor feel small next to each other just because they can’t win a debate, and he’s not smarter than her.

-season 5 doesn’t exist. season 4 with her just giving hopeful speeches and being caring and accepting to not be part of the actual job unless it’s as a secretary/manager/medical doctor doesn’t exist. She’s a biochemist, she’s good in charge, she’s a genius, use it. Jemma being perfectly okay and emotionally comforting the rest of the team all the time without breaking despite her traumas while simultaneously doing like one hour of actual work in her field per week, and blindly siding with someone without that being a sign of her mental breakdown/not showing any sign of doubt when in the middle of her friends fighting without that being a sign that she’s falling apart and that she needs to follow one direction no matter what, doesn’t exist.
