Get to know me tag game!
thank you to @readingworldwanderer and @evenaturtleduck for tagging me in this game <3
i think most of my TMH mutuals have been tagged already, so i'll tag @booksnchocolate @eldritcharchaic and @wrathanddemons !
1. What’s your blog title from?
nothing specific, but there was a period where tumblr was really into the words "birb" and "smol" (especially in terms of smol beans) and i had a brainwave and decided to combine them. on account of i'm both small and pudgy, like a birb.
2. What movie have you watched most recently? What did you think of it?
i literally just got back from watching Disclosure Day in the theater. i thought it was goofy as hell lmaooo. the story didn't make any sense, all the alien tech was treated like magic, a lot of the character motivations were undercooked and unexplained, and there was a christian crisis of faith which was TECHNICALLY fine but used up runtime that could have been used to explain anything else about the worldbuilding. idk, Emily Blunt was great and some of the shot compositing/sequencing was masterful, but the movie itself was ass.
3. What are you looking forward to right now?
i am meeting a long-time tumblr friend in person for the first time ever tomorrow!!!! i am so excited!!!! i have no idea how tall they are!!
4. If you could do anything at all today, what would it be?
this is so boring but i'd quite like to get my laundry done ^_^" my hamper is overflowing and it's a problem
5. What’s your drink of choice? (Coffee/tea order, alcohol of choice, soda, etc.)
usually either a mocha latte (hot or iced depending on the weather) or a coke
6. What’s your hair routine like? Anything special?
i'm the laziest person alive so i don't have much of a routine. i have a leave-in conditioner spray that i comb through my hair post-washing it, and i scrunch my hair a bit afterwards just so it doesn't dry weird. i used to use a curl cream but it was too heavy for my hair, so i'm trying to find a good mousse instead.
7. What’s your favorite way to travel? Is there a mode of travel you haven’t done that you want to experience?
i really like interstate driving! pop the sunroof, blast a playlist, turn on cruise control, and chill in the fast lane for the next 6 hours.
i've never flown first class internationally, but i'd like to at some point in my life. i hear it's one of those experiences that completely changes the game for frequent travelers.
8. Favorite month of the year and why?
december!!! i looooove winter and the winter holidays. i love the cold and the snow and the lights and hot cocoa and all the winter markets and the winter ballet season ^_^ and i love the transition from old year to new year; it's a great moment to check in with myself and make microadjustments to my life
9. Favorite time of day and why?
the ~30-60 minutes before sunset, when the sky is turning all sorts of colors and the clouds look like cotton candy or like they're on fire. i love the colors and the way it feels like there's change in the air.
10. Do you play or follow any sports? Elaborate on that.
i do not. i've never been athletically inclined, and i've got enough media fandoms without adding sports to the mix. i WILL follow a sport championship if there's enough cultural hype, though. i got really into the knicks in recent weeks, and sometimes i'll follow a cricket championship if my family is getting excited about it.
11. What kind of music is stuck in your head a lot lately?
i rewatched the bollywood movie Taare Zameen Par recently and that soundtrack is stuck in my head now. specifically Meri Maa ToT ughh my heart
12. Dishes or laundry?
laundry hands down. i hate the feeling of Wet Textures so dishes are a nightmare >w< laundry is a little tedious and also expensive, so i don't do it as often as i should, but it's easy to throw on a youtube video or call a friend and just plow through the chore.
13. What’s something you learned recently?
i took a waltz class a couple days ago and learned some basic steps and a very simple spin :D it was really fun and i'm going back next week to hopefully learn more!
14. If you could give a TED talk on anything, what would you talk about?
probably hollow knight speedrunning! i put together a whole powerpoint on hollow knight meme runs for a presentation night a couple years ago, and i could easily expand that into a proper overview/extensive history.
15. What’s a piece of advice you find yourself giving a lot?
you've GOTTA figure out how to do life on your own. it makes life so much less scary and opens you up to cool new experiences. i also think it helps you be healthier in relationships if you know you don't need the other person to be happy. like you can advocate for yourself better and avoid codependency.
#1 advice for this is to always have a book with you, and just start reading if you don't wanna sit alone with your thoughts. #2 advice is to make a bucket list or bingo board, so that solo existence feels less daunting and more like a quest. #3 advice is that in big cities, solo diners can often skip long waits at food/drink establishments with bar seating because they can snag the empty seat between larger parties. so go solo to michelin star restaurants and rooftop bars and see what happens.
16. What’s a piece of advice you would give yourself five years ago?
stop telling him you'd be willing to move away from nyc for him, and just admit that nyc is it for you. i know you want to believe you'd be willing, and you don't want to demand a sacrifice from him that you aren't willing to make in return. but denying the truth isn't helping either of you.
17. Do you believe in luck and superstition? Do you carry any lucky items or follow any lucky items?
i do believe in luck a bit. i think the universe has ways of moving in your favor on occasion. but i also think the concept of luck is just a way to make meaning when our internal experiences feel opaque to us. like i think if you're seeing signs from the universe, it's a manifestation of some inner decision or uncertainty or personal value that you haven't consciously acknowledged yet. anyway, i've got a good luck fox charm in my bag that i got from a temple in Japan, because there's no reason not to, but nothing else by way of lucky objects.
in terms of superstition, there's this Hindu story that Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, sits on your tongue once a day, and anything you say at that moment will come true. but you don't know when she'll be there, so you should be careful to only say things that you want to come true. i'm not particularly religious anymore, but this story has always stuck with me, and i definitely try to avoid thinking or saying things that i really don't want to come true. just in case she's there.
18. Are you musical? Play any instruments or sing? Would you ever perform for an audience?
music is everything to me. i sing with a choir and we perform a few times each year. i don't like performing solo but i do love performance, so an ensemble is perfect for me.
i also played a lot of piano when i was growing up, though i've fallen out of the hobby recently. in college, playing piano was my way of meditating and decompressing; i'd lock myself in a practice room for hours at a time and just let my stress bleed away into the keys.
19. Write, type, or speak?
type, these days. the ability to edit is helpful, and i type much much faster than i write. i don't mind speaking, but i'm an awkward speaker and i quite often put my foot in my mouth because my words come out before i've fully consciously thought through them.
20. What do you wish someone would ask you?
"would you like to sit back and binge watch the mentalist while i clean your whole apartment for you?"
