Fairy bonding has different meanings. There is platonic and romantic bondings. Every bonding takes time and contact. The fairy has to be around the person for long periods of time and apply some sort of scent marking. Even so, it isn’t instantaneous. A person spending a lot of time in a fairy’s nest will speed up the bonding as well.
Human/other creatures and fairy bondings are different than fairy and fairy bondings. There is typically a one sided link between the fairy and the human/other creature. The fairy will get a sense of the other being’s mood that feels a bit like a second sense.
A fairy and fairy bonding is a bit stronger. There is almost a hivemind aspect between the bonded fairies, projecting thoughts and knowing how the other fairy feels. This helps in comforting methods.
Platonic bondings link family and friends. It isn’t uncommon for fairies in a large family group to all be bonded together. This allows everyone in the group to comfort any that are upset or sad.
Romantic bondings are more intense. The need to be around their mate is very strong. They have the instinctual urge to protect their mate and it isn’t uncommon for them to get aggressive if they think their mate is in trouble. Detaching from a romantic bond is painful, severing an invisible link between the two. If the other person is not a fairy then they don’t feel anything.
Being bonded to can be subtle and sometimes the fairy isn’t entirely sure upon the initial bonding. Scent marking, nest sharing, and gift giving can strengthen the bond though it isn’t entirely concrete until the fairy notices the threads and decides willingly to strengthen them. It’s another second sense feeling. The fairy will then be able to jump to their bonded in case of trouble with no picture or prior visit needed.
