Awww— I’m one of your faaaaavorites!?
1. I hold my pencil like a lunatic and get strange stares whenever I have to write in front of someone. At school, I refused to change it and got in an unbelievable amount of trouble with teachers for being stubborn, to the point where they even called parent-teacher conferences because of it. My “penmanship” grades always suffered, so I guess it’s a good thing I can type even if I think my scrawl is just fine thank you very little.
2. I’m an Alto-range singer.
3. I despise Thanksgiving more than any other holiday. I really, really, really hate it. I cannot stress this enough. Haaaaate.
4. I’m a night owl and a procrastinator so pretty much everything I do, gets done late-night and last-minute.
5. Every Wednesday is “Nonna Day” for me, which I actually just got back from. My Nonna (Italian grandmother), makes her homemade pizza for lunch and I go visit with her and then help her with whatever errands she needs. She doesn’t drive and never feels super comfortable with English, so I drive her around town if she’s got something to do, write checks to pay her bills, take her to appointments, help her clean up her house if she needs, etc… But I’m pretty sure I’m still getting the better end of the deal because I get to eat food like this:
There were technically guests over that day, so there’s more there than usual, but you see what I’m getting at here.
Do you have a favorite sport? Either to watch or play?
Watching: Soccer/Football
I’m a huge fan of the Italian national team, and enjoy Serie A club play although it’s difficult to follow here. Favorite team is probably Juventus with A.C. Milan a close second because my favorite players pretty much all call (or called for those who recently retired or transferred) these teams home…
Playing: Soccer again or Baseball
I played on a co-ed rec soccer team in college which was a blast when I wasn’t busy dying from all the running, and growing up I played baseball and softball a lot because that was the main sport around my house. My favorite position was catcher and the best time I had was probably the season I played on a rec team during high-school where we got to pick our numbers and the name on our jerseys…
Yup.
34. Pyp's Embarrassing Moment - Disclaimer: I'm not actually embarrassed by this. I'm a goddamn hero and no one will convince me otherwise.
One day in kindergarten, the teacher explained to the class what fire alarms were and how fire drills worked. I happened to be absent that day.
Later on that week, the class was having a Teddy Bear show-and-tell day where everyone brought their favorite bear to school with them, and the fire drill went off. The kids started filing up to go outside and confused, I asked what was going on. The others told me the noise meant there "was a fire" and we had to leave, so I fell in somewhere at the back of the line and was wandering out with the rest when I realized I didn't have my bear.
I ran back for him, only to see the other kids had left their bears behind as well. At that point I was alone in the room and--realizing it was up to me to save them all--started trying to gather as many as I could but it was impossible to hold them, so I ran into the big coat closet and frantically started stuffing them into my tiny backpack...
Meanwhile, the teacher was outside taking a headcount and realized I was missing. She came back inside to get me and found me standing in the middle of the closet, wearing a backpack stuffed full of teddy bears, staring up at her over a bundle of as many others as I could carry in my arms...
She had me put them down and led me outside by the hand in front of all the older kids who were already lined up by the playground, watching and laughing at me, while the teacher lectured me about how, "things aren't important, people are, blah blah blah," but screw all of them, I was a goddamn hero that day.
The End.

31. My Pets
Family has two, black “Peekapoos” (Half Pekingese, Half Poodle) named Mickey and Minnie. They’re ridiculous dogs and they crack me up constantly, but they’re getting pretty old…
Yes, I’m aware their under-bites are amazing. Don’t make fun. Very fierce dogs, these.
32. One thing I’ve lied about
Hm… My most constant lie is probably that I say I’m fine/great/whatever pretty much anytime I’m not. I’m just not one to share my feelings or moods too often and it’s better off that people don’t know the bad shit anyway.
34. An Embarrassing Moment
Since it’s already come out recently with a couple of you, I suppose I can share my kindergarten fire hero story, but I’ll give it it’s own post later to keep the size of this one down…
35. Where I work
From home. I’m the owner/editor/publisher of a newspaper, believe it or not. I wrote for the paper as a freelance thing a while after college and had the opportunity to take over about a year and a half ago. It’s rough—I don’t have much help and I really fell into this whole thing headfirst—but I like the freedom in being my own boss, and I enjoy what I do, so it’s a trade-off.
