THE STORY//
Every country has their pros and cons; every person has their strengths and their weekensess. Rebecca Salvator had just as many weaknesses as her strengths while living in Mexico City. The woman had been born to a single mother and had no siblings. Like anyone who has lived in Mexico, life isn’t fair or easy for anyone. The money workers recieve is crap. The meals and food that one eats has to be bought and cooked the same day for only that day. The hours that one works are too long for little pay. Corruption is going on in every corner. Drugs are sold everywhere. The list goes on and on! But Rebecca Salvator still managed to find the beauty and peace in everything she saw and touched.
Her mother was always working-that Rebecca remembered. The mother worked in everything and anything that she could find in order to support her daughter with food and education. However, that only got so far for the two of them. Eventually, without Rebecca knowing, the mother began to make real money in only one way: selling her body. All the little Salvator remembered was her mother bringing home strange men late at night or going out with them and not returning until the next day early in the morning before. It wasn’t until Rebecca got older that she began to question her mother and the weird visits they would get. Ms. Salvator simply told her daughter to mind her own business and focus on what was important which consisted knowing how to cook, clean, and doing the best in every one of her classes at school. And to never, NEVER do drugs.
Rebecca was innocent and therefore had done every single thing her mother had asked of her without hesitation. She cooked for the two of them. She cleaned for the two of them. She had gotten the top score in all of her classes for the both of them. Rebecca had done it all to make her mother proud. The girl always had a smile on her face and was there to lift anyones spirits up. If there were stray dogs, she’d give them a place to stay for the night. When someone at school didn’t have food or enough to eat that day, without a thought Rebecca handed them money or gave them her own lunch. Little things such as saying hello to a homeless person on the streets or helping an old lady came easily and effortlessly to the little Salvator.
That all changed on the evening of her 15th birthday. Her mother had told her that there wouldn’t be enough money for her quinceria and Rebecca accepted that like the good daughter she was. But when her mother arrived drunk and practically crawling with another stranger at her side, little Salvator had seen and had enough. The young woman slapped the man hard on his cheek and kicked him out of their house. That night she cried besides her mother who had been pumped with who knows how many drugs and bottles of tequila. Rebecca was upset and crying because she knew her mother shouldn’t have to be put through all of this just to be able to get food on their table and keep up with their bills.
The following day everything was different and Rebecca Salvator was never the same. She had begun to hang out with the wrong kind of people and got her hands on any kind of drug that was the talk of the town that month. The woman had tried it all. She no longer cared if her mother had told her to stay away from such crowds, people, or drugs because her mother herself had been a hypocrite. Instead, Rebecca lived like there was no tomorrow. Her studies went to trash, her attitude could be discribed as savage and bitchy, and her skill set had changed drastically to what it once was. Rebecca Salvator knew how to use her body-and she knew how to use it very very well.
One night she was able to prove her skills to a man who had strong connections. The man told her that in exchange for her services she could become very wealthy in a place like Montreal, Canada. And honestly, the proposal sounded very appealing to a girl with the age of 18 with no luck of succeeding in a life here alongside her mother, whom she rarely spoke to those days. Knowing that she didn’t have a long time to think about it, Rebecca packed her bags and with a single, “Adios ma” she walked out of her house and into the mans privet car.
Now, after having settled into her somewhat better life, Rebecca stayed in contact with the man who had given her the offer and from him she got other clients and the list continued to grow. What broke Rebecca to the core was when she found out that she had gotten pregnant from that same guy who had slept with her in Mexico and offered her this “amazing” deal of winning a lot of money and living in Montreal. It was there that she had also found out that the man was part of the Ivory Syndicate. Rebecca could care less about the gang or which person she was escorting for the night as long as they gave her the money that was due. The woman never spoke a word of needing a doctor who did abortions except to a woman that she had met while working at a strip club as a dancer, hostess, and bartender. But the topic was never brought up again.
