To say she wasn’t slightly concerned would be a lie- but, her trust in her son was greater than any fear of the unknown. Mix that with her sincere curiosity and the thought of the Robot staying didn’t seem so daunting. Sure, the bickering with John over the matter was exhausting; but, the wonder that buzzed about made it worth it.
Watching Will take such an interest in something was a reward in itself.
In witnessing the muddy bot, there was something endearing about them- almost child like. The way they swirled and lit up, Maureen felt a fondness beginning to build. The build was far from a pet, but close to a silent friend. “That’s part of the fun, isn’t it? Discovering what they know and what they don’t.” In all honesty, it was any aerospace engineer’s dream. “Perhaps they have mud, but they deal with it in a different fashion.” It seemed The Robot was learning about human nature the more they observed Will.
Maureen’s fingers pushed a panel, allowing a compartment to jut out. Reaching inside, she groped for the cloth that resided. “Hopefully these won’t unsettle your companion.” She handed one to Will before she began to unfold her own. “We’ll take it easy. Allow them to get used to the motion.”

“Gods... must be going insane. No one on this planet is capable of creating a robot that advanced.” Aaand now he’s just going to mutter to himself for a bit. Of course he saw the Robot again. He’s pretty sure it’s just a hallucination from living alone in the woods.
If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
@aboyandhisbot
“Probably either Mina or Adelaide.”
✩ Grooming, brushing, or tending to their hair. Or, at least, as 'tending' as a giant knife-edged hand reaching out to fluff fluff fluff her hair can be. Fluff fluff fluff fluff.
Acts of Affection ➡️ @aboyandhisbot [ROBOT]
Maureen, finally getting to Penny's book, sits on the edge of a storage container with her feet dangling comfortably. She hears the rattling steps of the mechanical friend and acknowledges them briefly before pointing her nose back down into the pages of the neatly scribbled tale.
She feels them edge closer to her. Closer and closer until-
Oh.
Maureen feels as if she is the prize in one of those old claw machine games- it isn't gentle, but, it doesn't hurt her. (She saw the way they were with the horses, they are more than capable) "Thank you." There is a smile in her voice, but she sits rigid, not wanting to move and accidentally pull a wad of her hair out due to the tighter-than-human-fingers grasp.
Still, it was very endearing.
“Uuuuhmm... did anyone else see a small boy and a seven foot robot with a glowing face?” Nicholas, who’s still reading Lost in Space, is a little surprised. Just a little.
"Merry Christmas, Mom." in comes Will, wobbling forward with a big, thin package. It's heavy, evident by his hobbling, but he doesn't think a handmade glass whiteboard of this size can be anything but. "I hope you like this! But if you don't, that's okay. It's not lucky like your other, and it's kinda heavy, but... it's pretty big. Maybe you'll get some use out of it."
"Merry Christmas, Will." Maureen watched him with such heartfelt adoration as he struggled (but, only slightly) with the weight. The thought crossed her mind to help him, but he was doing just fine on his own- he really could do just about anything I fcb b he put his mind to it- still, eventually she reached out to grip it and heave it onto the table. Her son wasn't kidding, there was some heft to it.
"I'm sure I'll love it." The mother tore into the package and pulled the wrappings away to gaze upon her gift. A smile pulled on her features, eyes crinkled. "Will, I love it."
She ran a hand down the smooth glass before she turned to face her son. "It's better than lucky- it's from you." She reached out to him, hand clasped gently against the back of his head to pull him in. "Thank you."

"Hey, Mom? Do we have any soap for mechanical things or buffing cloths? Robot fell into a patch of mud and he really needs a bath."

Maureen arched a brow, the corner of her mouth wrinkling into a smile as she looked down at her son.
"You're taking your friend very seriously. That's quite responsible of you." Most boys had a dog, her boy had a robot. "I think there are some rags around here. If Don hasn't dirtied them all." The smallest eye roll intruded her eyes. "Come. I'll help you look."
