âPerhaps youâll find a way- but, for now we can only refer to the facts that we know now.â Maureen offered a small, yet sincere smile to her son. âKeep showing your patience and perhaps they will learn to teach you a thing or two.â It was only slightly troubling that Will only seemed to have a friendship with the bot, but the mother would be as supportive as she could.
Will should be playing ball with his father or running around with sticks- however, this wasnât a common situation for any of her children; or for her. Maureen would find reason is such facts. At least Will was playing. Discovering. As a child should.
And she wished John could understand thatâ his disgruntled view was the warrior in him, she knew. And how grateful she was that he was concerned for their childâs safety- but, if they didnât allow Will room to grow, it could be detrimental. She wouldnât have him sheltered his entire life.
As hushed as they were, the mother was certain that the arguments she had with her husband carried to her children. It could be taxing on their intelligent, but young minds- but, she would not stand by until John saw reason.
Maureen was impressed with how respectful her son was towards the structure with the swirling lights. However, she felt herself to grow slightly nervous when it looked at her. As its metallic figure shifted and formed to a softer and more sleek state. The mother found amusement as the fish fell.
She reached out a cloth clad hand and stroked the metal softly. A look of wonderment struck her. âIncredible.â She found herself saying as she wiped the mud from the boyâs upper arm.
Heâs always been the sort to prefer the company of his family and a chosen few to the possibility of a gaggle of others. He enjoyed spending time with his fellow classmates, of course, but that was usually enough for him. After a solid nine hours of class and sudden loud noises, he was always ready for just some quiet time to finish his homework and maybe unwind a bit.Â
Besides, life after the Christmas Star meant that more and more people (classmates included) focused on the topic of leaving.Â
Robot, at least, likes to stay in the now, and theyâre generally respectful about volume control and whatnot. Not that having his own voice parroted back at him is always the most wonderful thing, sure, but theyâre trying.
âI donât really know what heâs made of, and Iâm not sure about how it works, but heâs pretty adaptive. When I found him, he was this really dark gunmetal, with yellow details, but now he kinda matches our spacesuits. The texture feels different too. Heâs a lot softer, like⊠satin, I guess, in comparison to sandpaper.âÂ
Thereâs a fair number of differences in addition to that, of course, but maybe thatâs for another time. Eventually, theyâll get Robot to a good xenobiologist. Or maybe a mechanic. Maybe a bio-mechanic, if such a thing exists.Â
The Robot, at least, seems at ease enough with this cleaning. They still donât understand the purpose of it, content enough to be mucky, but he doesnât feel any inklings of panic or discomfort. This didnât exist for them, he thinks, because their beliefs in cleanliness tends towards presuming what Windex is used for.Â
Windex might be fine and dandy for mechanicals, sure, but he really doesnât like waking up to his clothing being doused in it.Â
âUh, be careful around his chestplate. Not as many things can move there and heâs a bit sensitive.â Will notes, carefully hupping himself onto a spine (carefully set out for him to balance on) as he wipes off the back of his friendâs head. âItâs really staticy too. Iâve shocked myself on it a lot.â
"It seems to me as if it is a chameleon effect- they may be designed to fit into their surroundings." It was found in multiple species, it wasn't too far fetched to be programmed into a machine. It could be a brother designed of the cloaking device. "How interesting." Maureen would be intrigued to see where the creation had come from. It would possibly shed light onto their mechanics and their masking qualities.
She stared into what would have been its face and showed a fave of such admiration. The shape of it, the way it traveled. Impressive. And her son may have been the first to discover the being in their proximity.
"Careful with the chest plate. Got it." A strange venture I feed this was, but an unforgettable event with Will that she would never soon forget. Her wrist swivels as fingers work delicately against the smooth surface of their little project.
Maureen gives her son a loving side eye as she learned that he admitted the static shocks he had received.
"I suppose a little shock never hurt any one, but, I appreciate the warning."
She works silently, mostly- finding herself unsettled over the fact that she wasn't very good at making small talk with her son. Had this journey really made her so disconnected from the Robinson children? She opens her mouth, but words failed her-
A clear of her throat marked her second attempt. "So, uh: how are you?"
âĄïž Will Robinson Continued From âĄïž X
To say she wasnât slightly concerned would be a lie- but, her trust in her son was greater than any fear of the unknown. Mix that with her sincere curiosity and the thought of the Robot staying didnât seem so daunting. Sure, the bickering with John over the matter was exhausting; but, the wonder that buzzed about made it worth it.
Watching Will take such an interest in something was a reward in itself.Â
In witnessing the muddy bot, there was something endearing about them- almost child like. The way they swirled and lit up, Maureen felt a fondness beginning to build. The build was far from a pet, but close to a silent friend. âThatâs part of the fun, isnât it? Discovering what they know and what they donât.â In all honesty, it was any aerospace engineerâs dream. âPerhaps they have mud, but they deal with it in a different fashion.â It seemed The Robot was learning about human nature the more they observed Will.Â
Maureenâs fingers pushed a panel, allowing a compartment to jut out. Reaching inside, she groped for the cloth that resided. âHopefully these wonât unsettle your companion.â She handed one to Will before she began to unfold her own. âWeâll take it easy. Allow them to get used to the motion.â
@aboyandhisbot
âYeah, I suppose so.â he takes the cloth, unfolding the stained surface and considering the feel of cotton against his hands. âI just feel bad, I guess. I donât think he knows how to share his culture with us, so all heâs doing is experiencing rather than sharing. Maybe thatâs okay, maybe he likes it, but... Iâd like to know things about him too.â
Not that he doesnât get feelings, of course. Heâs never quite sure what his Robot is saying unless they gesture (only around him, strangely, falling silent and still when anyone else draws near) but he feels things sometimes, feelings for things he doesnât have a memory cue for or for something that really shouldnât make him feel much.
Thereâs a layer of horror when Mom and Dad argue now, more than the usual sadness. Robot doesnât understand arguing. Robot doesnât understand what a Mom or a Dad is, not really, but they really donât understand why a pair of leaders would bicker and quarrel and cry.
Little Will (still small, probably always going to be small) pats his friendâs side, then the large spines decorating their back. Metal shifts around a bit, sharpened edge folding in, and that wriggly fish falls out to join the stopped up bit of water in their vents.
âJust shake your head from left to right if you want us to stop, okay?â Like they practiced a while ago, gesturing to eachother until heâs pretty sure Robot got it. Theyâve gotten pretty good at figuring this sort of thing out lately.
That heavy, glittering head tilts, light swirling off into a corner. Thereâs an unsaid feeling passed between them, something that lights up that screen a bit more (and lights up the interior of a skull, in a more metaphorical sense). So Will takes that soft, cottony cloth and wipes away at a (literal) shoulderblade, dabbing away mud until he can see a bit of that curious iridescent blue appears again.
The Robotâs head shifts forward again, facing âMom.â Will will be careful and considerate, especially around the softer wires. Hopefully, Mom will be as well.
"Perhaps you'll find a way- but, for now we can only refer to the facts that we know now." Maureen offered a small, yet sincere smile to her son. "Keep showing your patience and perhaps they will learn to teach you a thing or two." "You're taking your friend very seriously. That's quite responsible of you." Most boys had a dog, her boy had a robot. "I think there are some rags around here. If Don hasn't dirtied them all." The smallest eye roll intruded her eyes. "Come. I'll help you look."

đč To give my muse a single red rose
"And people say romance is dead." Maureen mused, taking the rose from Erin. She turned it over, carefully in her finger tips, and brought it up to her nose to get a good whiff. "Its beautiful, thank you." She said with a smile.
"Is she really just a friend?" -mrsxrobinsxn
@mrsxrobinsxn
Erin wouldâve laughed off the question if she hadnât caught something in the tone of Maureenâs voice that made her pause. Her brow furrowed slightly as she stopped what she was doing to look up at her. âOf course. What else would she possibly be?â She challenged gently wondering where on Earth, or rather in space, Maureen had gotten a different idea.Â
Maureen felt tension release in her shoulders. The older woman usually wasnât one for gossip, but, some things were hard to ignore. The mother was ashamed that she allowed some taunt to taint any image of Erinâs. The Robinsonâs and Erin had received a multitude of attention ever since they made it safely to Alpha Centauri. And while it shouldnât be a factor, Maureen was still self-aware of her age compared to Erin- and this new girl that had been hanging around was younger and fresher. âIâm sorry. Nevermind.â
Erinâs brow furrowed in concern. There was clearly something weighing on Maureenâs mind. After everything that theyâd been through together, the Australian wasnât willing to let anything try to undermine what theyâd built together. âNo, not never mind. Talk to me. Whatâs going on?â Erin encouraged gently. She reached out to draw Maureen closer to her. âHey, itâs okay, just talk to me. Whatâs on your mind?â
"It's..." Maureen waved her hand, almost trying to shoo away the entire situation. "Now that I've said it out loud it's stupid." She let out a sigh. "That new girl- Tara... Tina...?" She shook her head. "Whatever her name is." She closed her eyes in embarrassment. "I see the way she looks at you... and she's your age... and..." Then she felt guilty. "Barbara, from across the street said that you valued her company more than mine... because she's younger and doesn't have children." She gripped Erin's hand, silently asking for permission. "I shouldn't have let doubt cloud my mind. I'm sorry, Erin."
My muse is being held hostage by your muse's enemy, what would you do? - mrsxrobinsxn
@mrsxrobinsxn
Erin had known something was amiss about Smith. Never able to actually put a reason behind it or provide any evidence of wrongdoing, just mere suspicion, sheâd never voiced those concerns to anyone. Now she felt guilty. Sheâd known. Damn it, sheâd know. Something was wrong and maybe she couldâve prevented this. Maureen was gone. John and Don were dead. And the kids. The kids. Her heart hurt. Maureen wanted nothing more than for those kids to be safe. Now theyâd lost their two best chances at getting them to safety.Â
Screaming and helpless to render aid, sheâd watched as Smith had wounded and drug Maureen away. She had no idea why she was taken or what she had planned but her only hope was that Smithâd wanted the brilliant engineer alive. Erin was hurting and most of all she was angry. No one was going to take anything more from those kids, least of all the fraudulent Doctor Smith. She was going to find her. Smith wasnât the only one with secrets on that ship. The bubbly and friendly Australian was about to show her adversary the skillset that got her on the Resolute in the first place.Â
It hadnât been an impossible task to track down the pair once sheâd finally gotten free. After talking to the Robinson children, trying to put some of the pieces together - the number of places they couldâve gone hadnât been numerous. She urged the kids to stay back and let her go alone. She was going to bring their mother back by any means necessary.Â
The leader of the robots made some sort of clicking sound and what seemed to be his right hand man went back in the ship. Of course, they knew Doctor Smith was still in there. Maureen didnt fight the grip of the robot of the robot that was escorting her- all things considered they were being gentle. But, were they only being cooperative until they got their machinery back? Maybe the small space family would be slaughtered when this was all said and done. The mother tried to push those thoughts away.
The small robot army led them to an expansive hall. If it were Earth it would almost look like a Congress building or an embassy. It was grand, with tall metallic walls with long slotted windows. The red head looked around in shock, she felt so small in the grand scheme of things.
They entered the building and before them lay a great hall. At the very end sat a mechanical beast. God, it was massive. This must have been the leader.
"Robinsons." Like its guard, it pointed at the mother and Maureen could practically feel her heart stop. It could speak- and it knew who she was.
â„ Running your hand over their arm and gently pulling them close.
Her eyes looked tired, and her hair was beginning to show slight gray streaks from the stress. They had been lost in space for years and they finally found it. Alpha Centauri. The journey was over- they had made it. All of them.
âWelcome home.â
mrsxrobinsxnâ
âI love you, too.â It put Maureenâs mind at ease knowing that she could say this without fearing that it may be the last time. They were home now, they were safe. All of them. And her live symbolized a new chapter. A story of hope rather than fear. She knew now that she could live a long happy life with Erin, with her children. A smile tugged on her lips. âI canât say it enough.â And to prove it: âI love you.â Escaped her lips once more.
Maureen melted into Erinâs touch as the other womanâs fingers slowly slid over freckled skin. A content, heavy sigh left the woman as she kissed Erin with as much fervor that had been kept within. She had so much time to make up for. Maureen wanted to learn every curve of Erin- every line, every mark. Everything. And now, she had all the time in the world.
The redhead pulled away just long enough for slender fingers to curl around the hem of Erinâs shirt. She slowly pulled up, guiding the womanâs arms up so that she could get rid of the offending article of clothing. âMuch better.â She said softly before she captured Erinâs lips again.
The smile on Maureenâs lips coupled with the professions of love seemed to erase all the stress and fear and chaos of the years before. Nothing else really mattered anymore. The kids were safe, Maureen was safe, and they were all there together. That moment was better than any dream she had come up with when they were out lost amongst the stars.Â
âMuch better,â Erin agreed, smiling into the kiss. She had to make a concerted effort not to rush. Caught between being eager to have her hands all over Maureen but also well aware they could take their time. There would be no emergency pulling them away, no danger, or chaos to pull their attention. It didnât have to be rushed quickly stolen affections when no one was looking. It was just them now.Â
Erin broke away from the kiss to press light kisses along Maureenâs jaw working slowly to her ear as she whispered, âIâve been thinking about this since that night sitting on top of Jupiter 2,â she confessed, between gentle kisses. She smiled as she thought about the memory, it felt like another lifetime ago.Â
"Oh, I know." Maureen hummed. She remembered that night well. The stars above them, illuminating Erin's hair, was burned into her memory forever. It was a pivotal moment in their lives, a starting point to a wonderful winding road that led to here. Through pure determination and some stubbornness, they had made it to Alpha Centauri. They could be happy. They could be free.
Maureen was an explorer by nature and she couldn't wait to discover Erin. What made her tick? What made her squirm? What caused small noises to come from her mouth? The mother was determined to learn all of this and take her sweet time. A red brow arched as she tilted her head to the side. "Your eyes said it all back then." She mused, her eyes lulling closed with each kiss that was being scattered along her neck.
Maureen took long, gentle breaths, her chest rising and falling beneath the other woman. Practiced and gentle hands rounded their way from Erin's hips to the bare skin on her back. A chill was sent down her spine as she realized just how much she loved Erin whispering in her ear.
