What is Dorian giving Manon for Valentines?
I think the better question would be: what isn’t Dorian giving Manon for V-day? HAHA!
Okay. But seriously…
Canonically, I don’t think he’d go crazy. I think it would be a simple, useful gift. It could be an object or a date or him taking her to a place she mentioned she’d never been to before but always wanted to go. It would be meaningful and simple. Post collar Dorian/king Dorian is not the same as prince Dorian. It’s not about impressing her into his bed. They’ve already slept together and he’s not in it for sex. He’s with her for life.
I honestly think of the two of them, Manon would spend more time worrying about what to do or get for Dorian. I doubt she has much experience giving gifts. So, while I don’t think she’d spend a dumb amount of time fretting about what to do for him, I do think she’d be a bit…anxious at first. I don’t think she’d need help picking a gift either. I think she’d internally work it out like a math equation. Then when she figured out the perfect item, her nerves would settle. It would be something meaningful and simple. Maybe a midnight ride over the wastes maybe arranging for him to have the night off from begging king. It wouldn’t be showy or over the top. It’d be something that further proved to him that she sees who he is and that she’s always listening to him/she understands him.
I could honestly see Dorian’s gift/gesture to Manon being something for Abraxos. Maybe his favorite dinner meats, a new blanket or water basin. Maybe a new saddle that doesn’t run his scales the wrong way. Actually…. i could see him giving Brax his own private garden. Then he could offer to show Brax and Manon and they’d walk through together watching Brax have a good time and therefore both having a good time together. Then later Manon would pull out a small dagger she’d carried since she was a child and give it to him. And maybe she’d say “When an ironteeth witch turns 16 she gets a dagger. We don’t need them, they’re just symbolic. We swear blood oaths with them, perform rituals… Asterin gave hers away. To a hunter she met in the woods….” the implication being Asterin gave away the dagger to the man she loved and that Manon is now doing the same. Dorian wouldn’t say anything. But they’d share a look and both know what it meant. He’d wear the dagger everyday for the rest of his life, and Manon would never forget the kindness and care he bestowed upon her by taking care of Abraxos. 💀💔🗑
