I went shopping yesterday. I was listening to a podcast as I moved through the isles. Mindlessly, I placed something in the cart for you too. It didn’t dawn on me until I was at the register,.. I think in that moment I laughed so I wouldn’t cry & then I bought it anyway.

The absent lover

I'm the absent lover, careless with hearts, Egging small breaks, Little cracks for fun. I wish I warned you. You moved too fast. Miles apart--space, Damn these miles, no freedom is felt no freedom is there. Simple lover, here, Look over here! I'm Not all there anyway. And I'll leave anyway. There's always a way, Willing itself my way. I hope it can find me, Because, as I've said, I'm the absent lover.

It is a bright, beautiful morning, cool, crisp, clear and I am thick and warm with sleep. I like the idea that we overlap, fingers trailing, but just out of reach. 

As I stand on the tube I watch the clearness become haze, and then suddenly we are plunged into mist, and my view obscured. But we descend, and the cool calmness of the morning becomes the harsh light and blackness of the underground. It's a contrast, but somehow I am in both worlds simultaneously, a part of me not fully in either. 

Later, as I sit on the grass in the midday light, I have a strong feeling that part of me is asleep with you, even as I write. It adds a pleasant wash of drowsiness and calm that filters through the noise and the traffic.
