March 4 ~ Absolute Grace
I have been a Christian since 1972 and have been blessed to live under the shadow of some truly special men of God. Some have gone to great lengths to exalt and magnify the grace of God. I have heard extraordinary messages on Grace Every verse in the Old and New testaments with even a suggestion of the topic has been preached on and taught. One of my most significant mentors has preached and taught over 50,000 messages and every one of them has been directly about or premised upon the grace of God. My library both digital and hard copy is filled with what grace can do and what grace really is. Yet, even though I can think of dozens of adjectives used to detail and describe God's grace, I don't ever remember ever hearing the term of "absolute grace". If I did and don't remember, please forgive me for not giving proper credit. Certainly the principle has been taught and alluded to but not the specific term.
And I think I can understand why. It is a radically dangerous term. Grace unleashed into its purest form is highly contagious and significantly infectious. Like a flu epidemic it catches you off guard and can bring down the proudest heart and stubbornnest will. Once you catch this "disease" you are likely never to shake its powerful influence in your life and you are most likely to measure your life by its presence with terms like "before I knew the grace of God" and "after I knew the grace of God." Or before "I was taught about grace" and "after I was taught about grace." And like a flu epidemic, its influence will reoccur and redirect your life and all its activities. However, unlike an influenza bug, absolute grace has very positive symptoms.
In American English the word "absolute" is defined and used in the following ways:
1 a: free from imperfection: perfect
b: free or relatively free from mixture: pure
2: being, governed by, or characteristic of a ruler or authority completely free from constitutional or other restraint 〈absolute power〉
4: having no restriction, exception, or qualification 〈an absolute requirement〉 〈absolute freedom〉
Now I know that this is quite a load to get a handle on all at once and that the Facebook format is more conducive to fast food thinking than deep reflective considerations, but I would suggest that it is worth the time and effort needed to have this downloaded into our hearts and lives. And that these qualities can be imported into every consideration that we have about the grace of God to our absolute blessing and necessary edification. And so let's begin to construct the Doctrine of Absolute Grace:
1. God's grace in its essence and outworking in our lives is "free from imperfection: perfect
2. God's grace in its essence and outworking in our lives is "free from mixture: pure"
3. God's grace in its essence and outworking in our lives is "completely free from any other restraint"; whether human or spiritual. It breaks through every chain or barrier: Complete in extent or degree or authority, it has no limitations or necessary parts missing".
So when we hear or read the following verses in the bible we are better acquainted with this aspect of God's character towards us, the one called Absolute grace:
Genesis 6:8 (AV)
8 But Noah found (Absolute) grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Ephesians 2:8 (ESV)
8 For by (Absolute, or unrestrained) grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Titus 2:11–12 (ESV)
11 For the (Absolute) grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 (For the (Absolute or pure) grace of God has appeared) training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
2 Peter 3:18 (ESV)
18 But grow in the (Absolute or perfect) grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
John 1:14 (ESV)
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of (Absolute and complete) grace and truth.
John 1:16 (ESV)
16 For from his fullness we have all received, (Absolute) grace upon (Absolute) grace.

Lord Jesus, we need to have a fresh manifestation of this (Absolute) grace your word speaks so much about. Just do it, Lord. Amen!!!
