The hat shop had been a haven for Hatter ever since he'd been dumped into Fableton, which was a blessing for him because the decaying magic in Wonderland had left him quite mad. The madness still returned from time to time whenever there was a magical surge in the town, but that had been happening less and less lately, and not at all since the barrier had been down. Occasionally, he still found odd things happening around him, tea cups floating into the air and books returning to shelves of their own accord, but he paid them no more mind than he did the regular physics of this world.
It wasn't the only haven he had now that he'd gotten all domestic with Cheshire though, and that stability did a lot for his general anxiety. Hatter was hesitant to use the word happy, afraid that the universe might sense it and send some unholy disaster their way, but it was true even if he didn't say it out loud. His fingers moved swiftly with a needle as he worked at his newest creation. He was no good at talking magic into his hats the way Sophie did, but it was undeniably there in his hands. The store had gotten a bit of a local reputation that whatever you happened to need in life, the right hat from Hatter's would find you, and you would find it. He didn’t know for sure if that was true, but it was a nice story anyway.
