“Don’t talk to me or me ever again”
can you share glimpses of one of your AU's? 🫣
Evil-ish Eragon AU: Selena manages to ferry Murtagh away, but this occurs before she finds out she's pregnant with Eragon. She dies shortly after he's born, with one of the last things she sees is her youngest being carried off into the clutches of the Empire.
Brom has no idea at first, too busy caring for Murtagh as Selena requested. It only takes a few years for the secret to crawl out though, and Brom connects the dots very quickly. He completely wipes the floor with Morzan soon after, hoping it'd give an opportunity to capture Eragon, but it just sends the toddler straight into Galbatorix's hands.
Operation Brother begins soon after, with Brom grooming Murtagh to be a warrior that'll prove his worth in the eyes of the other kingdoms. He's pretty harsh in his training, and is constantly bringing Morzan up as this ultimate bad guy that Murtagh has to constantly stamp out of his being. It gives the boy a pretty bad inferiority complex, but he holds out hope that once he's strong enough, he'll save his little brother and he'd finally have a proper family.
Eragon meanwhile is trained to be the polar opposite of Murtagh. With the Empire believing Morzan's eldest was eliminated before he could become a pawn, Galbatorix intends to make full use of the younger. It doesn't help that Galbatorix's mind is decaying due to his meddling with the darker sides of magic, causing him to make more and more drastic decisions. Eragon is essentially thrown to the wolves, broken over and over, then pieced back together in an amalgamation of his previous self. Saphira hatches upon his 15th birthday, and neither of them are allowed to be happy. When Arya is captured, Eragon is sent to the prison when it's clear Durza won't get anything out of the elf.
Instead he meets Murtagh, who was separated from Brom in the chaos with the Ra'zac (he's not dead though). Eragon decides to hide his identity, seeing a friend in the dark haired boy (his first ever friend :<). Murtagh finds Eragon endearing, but he also finds the boy rather creepy. Eragon has an odd outview on life, and behaves unnaturally (remember his training was fucked up).
The two go through the whole hooplah of a journey that is book 1, but their friendship during the journey only lasts until the Urgal army catches up. Knowing they were partly there to drag Eragon back to the Empire, he decides—in a desperate bid to keep his one friend free and safe—to reveal his identity.
Murtagh is taken completely by surprise, unsure of how to react to his travel buddy actually being his long lost brother—who's also actually Galbatorix's infamous Blue Rider. Murtagh at first tries to convince Eragon to abandon everything and join him with the Varden. Eragon knows this would be a bad idea as he's still under Galb's command. So he instead sacrifices himself to the army, giving Murtagh the valuable time needed to make a mad dash to the Varden. Eragon is, unsurprisingly, beat to a pulp and dragged back to his mad king, who does his trademark of taking Eragon's mind apart and putting it back together once the boy learns how to obey.
Unfortunately, Galb doesn't stitch Eragon back together exactly like he intentioned. He's warped his sense of empathy beyond repair, causing Eragon to begin brewing up ideas on how to save the remaining family he has. Eragon, now in a very bad mental states, decides that the only way he and his family could truly be together again would be for Eragon to simply become a Better Galbatorix. This determination causes his true name to change, giving Eragon the opportunity to basically rip Galbatorix apart with a Fucked Up version of his Empathy Spell. Now, Eragon becomes the new tyrant, taking control of Shruikan, the eldunarí, and the Empire's remaining assets.
Cue 200k words of angst and turmoil I'll develop laterrrr
