Oh the places you’ll go…. Problems = opportunity: yes, it’s a cliche, but for a reason. In finding materials for the Abstract Placings, there’s the issue of things being wet (tis the season). These are hard to preserve in their observed orientation, so I’ve taken to photographing them instead. - This adds a whole new element, as it’s then a matter of curating what part of the photo I want to use. It also adds a sense of place (mostly, the ground). - In these pieces, I’ve taken it a step further (or maybe to the side), and some of the elements used are photos of things I wouldn’t usually even consider picking up. - Lmk in the comments below - what experiences have you had where your work has led to unexpected places, be it through materials used, figuration encountered, or anything of the sort? What seems to open you up, lead you down new paths? Do you have any specific ways of doing this purposely for yourself? - 1st pic: “Everything #38 - The Battle #2 (Late Halloween)” - 2nd pic: “Everything #37 - The Battle (Desiring Shiny)” - #AbstractPlacings #pdxartist #theartofeverything #abstractplacing #foundobjectart #foundobjects #garbageart #trashart #abstractarrangement (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYXtpt2lbrs/?utm_medium=tumblr
