"I didn't like that they forgave the abuela" "the ending of Encanto was so disappointing" "it should have ended differently"
yeah because how dare HOW DARE a family decide to go into a process of collective healing instead of just fucking everyone out of their lives AAAAAAAAAAA
sorry abuela slander pisses me off
SO UH. HERE'S MY DRAWING REQUEST-
Bruno but he's playing some kind of instrument if you can (like a tiple or ukulele?)
And if you don't feel like it (because instruments are hard I'm so sorry) could you maybe do him and Alma just hanging out and doing some mother-son bonding? I really wish they got more screen time hhh- (you can choose whichever, or you could choose neither it's okAY LMAO)
(Also sorry this got long I spent way too much time staring at it and rewriting it because I don't want to seem demanding?? There's literally no pressure, I completely understand if you don't want to!!)
Why not both???
Bruno: Let's go, Mamá!
Alma: Ay, mijo!!
Please don't steal or repost!
Back on my shit again, crying over Encanto
So someone on tiktok pointed out that in each kid's gift ceremony photo, Abuela is standing next to them with both hands on the candle
EXCEPT one:
In Isabela's photo, she's leaning into Abuela, who only has one hand on the candle. Her other hand appears to be on Isabela's shoulder.
Akdjfjskdjdjjsjrj and it's just like
every little moment of tenderness
and affection between these two makes me want to burst into tears because it's so familiar to me. And like. Stuff like that really does make all the pressure and shit feel worthwhile, y'know?
But that terror is familiar too. And it's really fucking heavy.
Anywho long story short I'm not about to stop fixating on Isabela anytime soon so. Wish me luck on that one ig
Bruno: A pet rock is fun until you realize that it’s essentially immortal and you’ve cursed it to an eternity of watching its loved ones die
Everyone else: Bruno it’s 3am please stop-
Encanto's director Jared Bush answered more questions about the movie on twitter! (part 1)
(Part two)
so i took this picture,
and brightened it a ton so here’s little things i see in mirabel’s side of the nursery the day of her ceremony :)
the little bear that pepa is holding when mirabel asks about bruno. she picks it up with antonio’s things so it looks like she passes this toy down to him. 🥺
little drawings of the family on the wall. i can see mirabel holding a little butterfly wand with butterflies around her, pepa and a rainbow, dolores, augustín and mirabel together, i think I see julieta behind abuela’s head, abuela, isabela, and luisa.
this corner of the room which has a book along with a bookshelf, a mini building on the shelf, and what looks like a picture of julieta and augustín
this side of the room has a guitar, a ball, a tapestry, butterfly’s hanging from the ceiling, and the exact sheets and pillow she will have ten years later (i’m still salty about how casita or this family never gave her a room)
Mirabel’s view of Abuela losing her husband at the start of the movie
VS the end of the movie
Tells you something about how Abuela always told the story. Always focusing on the GOOD that came from it, and not on the pain that caused it. So afraid to acknowledge the pain associated with ‘The Miracle’, because that might make it not seem as positive, or perhaps make it go away. She was so afraid to seem ungrateful for it, that she couldn’t even admit that it came from the worst moment in her life.
Parents, Grandparents, who have gone through trauma, often want to protect their children from it so much that they won’t even acknoeldge that it happened. But the trauma still hurt them, and often times they unwittingly pass on their own anxieties and fears.
Abuela wasn’t a monster, or even a bad parent/grandparent. She was a traumatised woman, left alone, who coped the best way she knew how.
