Ok, but like the fact that they put a domestic violence awareness poster behind him given what his fiance does in the episode is a bit of a knife twist tbh
Given the way Bobby talks to him and Rhys in "An Oades to Christmas" I think it's really not too much of a stretch to think that the Oadlings probably weren't raised in situations where they'd think abuse is all that abnormal.
Also also a little snippet from Frodo in the same episode (Ghost Train) after getting caught by mistake that's kinda darker when you remember that the Oades' are absolutely terrible liars.
Like yes it's hyperbole and he's trying to reassure her because he's a sweet and non confrontational dude but like. This is the guy who will answer with a mistruth in perception of full honesty because the phrasing of the question is remotely offkilter to the facts.
