ACA Enrollment
Reminder that today is the last day for Marketplace enrollment for 2018.
If you’re a night owl like me and have procrastinated, GO NOW! The website was working fast and smooth just now, but it’ll be a madhouse come daystar hours I’m sure.
I went through the renewal process in about 20 minutes.
Official site of Affordable Care Act. Enroll now for 2018 coverage. See health coverage choices, ways to save today, how law affects you.
Open enrollment for ACA healthcare plans has begun, and lasts November 1 - December 15. There’s an unsurprising lack of publicity on the part of our federal government this year, but the ACA is still law and you can still use healthcare.gov to shop for plans.
PSA: 2018 Enrollment for Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) Health Insurance Ends on 15 December
I’ve seen a lot of “You should sign up!” posts which are great at raising awareness but don’t really have any links or additional info so I’ve decided to quickly compile a few links:
HealthCare.gov - This is the federal website where you can create an account for signing up for health insurance, if your state manages its own exchange (like Massachusetts or California) it will link you directly you to your state’s exchange.
The federal site has been going down for maintenance at points so don’t wait until the last minute to sign up!
There’s a ton of information on the main federal site but here are a few big ones if this is your first time shopping for health insurance (or maybe you just need a refresher from last year!)
How do I apply? - Options for how you can (re)enroll / apply for health insurance coverage through the exchange
How do I choose a plan? - This page explains what the “metal” ratings system means as well as linking to explanations of insurance benefits
Tips on enrolling - Links to other pages with more detailed information about eligibility and different types of coverage based on income
What is covered by plans purchased on the exchange? - Explanation of what is covered by plans purchased on the exchange and the Essential Health Benefits
Documents Needed to Enroll - Exactly what it sounds like; documentation proving identity, residence and income (if applying for financial assistance as well)
***Glossary of Insurance Terms***
I have a master’s degree that focused on US health care policy and I find myself having to look things up. Arm yourself with knowledge, this is useful even if you aren’t enrolling!
Literally I am posting this every day until the 15th because I’ve seen so many posts raising awareness but not providing info on how to enroll and the deadline is fast approaching.
Reminder....
Enrollment for 2018 health coverage through ACA is ending on the 15 of this month which is next Friday. Yes, you have a week but you also need to take in consideration the last-minute rush and the possibility of the site being down. For those of you on your parent(s) coverage make sure you’re still covered since all of the fuckery going on by 45′s administration. This way if you’re not you can still enroll.
Yes, the markets suck but it’s better to have the coverage than finding out you need coverage. Also all us healthy people saying I don’t need coverage all it takes is one accident; one weird healthy incident and you’re in medical debt. Hopefully 2018 brings us better promise health care wise.
