SEEKING INPUT ON MY HONORS THESIS RE: SLASH FICTION!
Seeking input for my honors thesis on public perception of fandom culture and slash fiction over time.
I'm going to add photos to this post because I know that my attention is usually more effectively caught by photos and images than just text alone when I'm scrolling through a feed of content. :P
In doing my thesis research on slash fiction...
I have gathered that in the past, people who read or wrote slash fiction felt a need to hide it from their families and those they worked with for fear of being judged as weird or perverted, or getting fired.
What I'm wondering though, is if that attititude has changed in recent years. Slash fiction has been written about in mainstream media like the New York Times and fan communities have become more visible with the growing popularity of social media. There has also been greater acceptance of the LGBTQ community in recent years.
I'm wondering if all of this has influenced how people perceive slash fiction and how those who read and write it perceive non-fans' perception of them. Obviously that sense of keeping our slashy interests on the DL still exists, but I'm wondering if it's lessened significantly as a general trend.
THIS IS THE PART WHERE ALL OF YOU COME IN.
Later this term, I will be putting together a survey for slash fans to answer, regarding your fannish interests and practices, demographic information, and how you feel perception of fandom culture and slash fiction has changed over time, or if you're a young fan, what you feel the status quo is right now. I'm particularly interested in hearing from older fans who have firsthand experience with being part of slash fandom during the '70s, '80s, or '90s, but I'm open to hearing from everyone who feels they have something to say on the matter.
If you are interested in helping me out with my research, please 'favorite' or reblog this post and I'll refer to the list of notes it accumulates when I have the actual survey put together. I will also create a new post with the link on my blog at a later date.
