Uh, hi! Sorry if this is weird lol, but I adore your written work (both the Weirdest Prophet, and the Sorority of Jason!) and I was wondering if you could maybe list some places where you found information regarding Hellenistic rituals and rites? If not, that’s totally fine lol. It’s just your work is so well researched (looking at Sorority of Jason, for example) lol
I have a interest in pagan religions, specifically those from before the rise of Christianity, and I’m currently writing my own pjo fic (failed time loop mixed with BP au)
Uh, thank you! Again, really adore your work <3
Hi! Thank you!
I'm afraid I can't give you a straight forward answer regarding the references to religion. Once upon a time I worked in academia and my field was very closely related to religious practices of the Ancient World.
Most of what I include isn't what is now defined as Hellenism, as in the modern religious practice dedicated to the Greco-Roman gods, but rather reconstructed religious liturgy and ritual that could feasibly have come from the Ancient World.
The weirdest prophet series wasn't researched so much as me including whatever I could remember off the top of my head. The Sorority of Jason Grace is very much a return to my academic field and me just revelling in the fun of it of all.
But the information isn't from a single place. In the past week I've read a treatise on cult instruments, Sommerstein and Torrance's book 'Oaths and Swearing in Ancient Greece', Aynur-Michèle-Sara Karata's 'Greek Cults and Their Dress Codes: The Regulations of Greek Sanctuaries for Clothing, Colour and Penalties Against Misbehaviour', and four other books I'm too lazy to go and pull out from the stack. All are on religious practices of some sort.
A lot of what I use is just... things I know because of my time in academia, and most of it I know because those earlier practices directly influenced Christian practices, but other than recommending your local university library, I can't give you a clearcut answer, sorry!
