Sandra jumps as the woman’s voice registers. She turns to the other woman and tries to smile, but her exhaustion weighs the corners of her lips and eyes.

“Wha-? Yeah, yeah, I’m here. Just- studying,” she sighs, motioning dramatically to her PADD. “I get why we have to know all this shit, but at the same time, why do we have to know all this shit?”

The woman wishes Kat could stand a little closer. It would be so nice to rest her head on Kat’s shoulder.... Have the brunette wrap her arms around Sandra while they curl in front of a fireplace... drink tea and cuddle under a blanket...

God, Sandra is absolutely hopeless.

“Why are you using my full given name for Rhee? I didn’t do anything wrong this time around.” Jim crossed his arms across his chest, eyes slightly narrowed as he stared at her from where he was standing, with his stance tight and tense. 

“Because I am excited!” Rhee exclaimed, trying not to bounce in front of him. She took his hands and squealed, “I am getting published! In an academic journal! Do you know what this means, Jim!? I am sure to get into the doctoral program now! I’m the only cadet from Starfleet whose article was accepted!”

Martin ran through the hallways to catch up with her. He knew that she was fast. And you never knew where a mutant that could phase through solid matter would be at a given time. At last he could see the back of her head and reached out to pat her shoulder.

“Kitty!” he beamed, his cheeks flushed from running. “Still up for studying tonight?”

Rhee blushed at his words but nodded and leaned forward, cupping his cheek so as to bring his face closer to hers. But she still wanted him to initiate it. She wasn’t sure why, but it seemed more comfortable that way.
