1. Biggest Guilty pleasure? Reality shows, especially the Bachelor and the Bachelorette, and to a lesser extent, Masterchef.

3. Have you ever created a vine? No but there should be one with things being read in a Mr Brady voice

4. If you could have any superpower, which would it be? Invincibility

5. Least favourite animal? Eels, vicious dogs, snakes, some spiders, stonefish, box jellyfish, basically any of the creatures that can kill you

6. Favourite song? It changes all the time

7. Black or Pink? Pink, as long as it’s pastel

8. Do you like pineapple on pizza? YES, IT IS THE BEST

9. Apples or Pears? Pears

10. Favourite Book from childhood? The entire series of ASOUE

11. Have you ever dyed your hair? Yes, I dye it about twice a year

You haven’t! He’s actually living at a friends’ house right now. Basically, a few months ago they asked if they could borrow him because they wanted a snake but they’d never had a reptile before. I thought that was a great idea because if things went wrong, I could always take him back right away and I’d be there to help. And it’s gone great. They’ve been taking phenomenal care of him and are planning on getting a sand boa from the same breeder next Sunday. He’s coming home next week sometime!

1. The Bible. It can’t not be on there. I wouldn’t be alive today without it. So many inspiring life lessons and faith questions answered.

2. The Slippery Slope -- Lemony Snicket. While the whole of ASOUE could qualify as my favourite book because of their wonderful, unique, sarcastic satirical style, Book the Tenth is by far my top pick of the litter. This one discards the formula almost completely, you have the moral conundrum of who really is noble or wicked really coming into its own, with the heroes of the story the Bauds committing wicked deeds, Sunny finally isn’t a baby anymore and develops an interest in cooking, you finally find out what VFD is, the Quiglet OTP is born and there is Esme. Lots of Esme. And also Carmelita. Too much brilliance in this one. I think the series really hit its peak here.

3. Not Another Happy Ending -- David Solomons.  A novel about writing and publishing. My two favourite career goals in one book. And it’s relatable. And it’s funny. And I don’t care that he wrote the book after the movie was released. It doesn’t read like a novelisation, it reads like a novel whose adaptation beat it to the punch.

4. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society -- Mary Ann Schaffer and Annie Barrows. If you like Austen, you should read this book. And if you don’t like Austen, you should read this book. Plus it’s one of the best epistolary novels I’ve ever read.

5. Gone Girl-- Gillian Flynn. I usually don’t like that kind of thing. But this one stayed with me. It also disturbed me a lot. But I read it twice in a month, it had that much of an effect on me.

6. White Teeth -- Zadie Smith I don’t even know where to start on how good this is. It was on one of my uni courses last year and I read the whole thing in a couple of days. It’s an immense novel. And deals with some pretty important issues. While still being witty and endearing.

7. Ransom -- David Malouf Basically the entire book is a stream of consciousness taking place in a very short time. And the prose is beautiful.

8. Cold Comfort Farm -- Stella Gibbons I read this once a year at least. Both a literary classic and a parody. I didn’t even know that was possible til I read it. But it is perfection, and the adaptation with Kate Beckinsale, Joanna Lumley and Stephen Fry is perfect too. 

9. Mrs. Boswell’s Slice of Bread -- Carla Lane I couldn’t not put a Bread book on here. Especially one that more or less proves Joetina is canon. 

10. A Man Called Ove  -- Fredrick Backman. If you read this, be prepared for that fact that you will cry. With real tears. It is beautifully touching in so many ways.

The rules are as follows: Go to page seven of your WIP and go to the seventh line. Share seven sentences or more and tag seven more writer-bloggers to continue the challenge. (And if you don’t have a seven page WIP, feel free to improvise the rules so it works with your length! ^^)

I’m working on a few fics at present so here’s an excerpt from the Shifty fic I’m writing. This part is when Shifty’s about 8 and Joey 9. This is a bit more than 7 sentences but I put more or less the whole scene in. 

Just to prove he’s not to be messed with, Shifty takes Joey’s precious stuffed dog from his bed that night and hides it in his own room at Grandad’s. That’ll teach him, bloody brat. Joey will wake up tomorrow and cry, and then he’ll know how Shifty feels every morning when he wakes up and realises all that awaits him is being ignored by his mother, being shouted at by his stepdad and being irritated by his ‘cousins.’ Feeling like something is missing. Feeling like there's a hole in his chest.

Joey doesn’t cry, though. Joey, he soon discovers, is far too clever to let something like that get him down.

Shifty awakes to find his new cousin sitting on the foot of his bed, grinning cheekily, the stuffed dog in one hand and Shifty’s prized stolen pocket watch in the other.

‘What’re yeh doin’ with that?!’ he demands, lunging for him. Joey dances out the way, and Shifty realises he’s been tied up in his own sheets. Clever little bastard. He’s thought of everything.

'Give it!' he snarls. Oh, he's going to kill Joey when he gets out of this. Nobody steals from him. He does the stealing. And nobody touches the pocket watch it took three attempts to nick, the watch that remains his biggest triumph to date. That's just crossing a line, that is.

‘Trade?’ says Joey, holding the watch just out of his reach. He holds the dog aloft in the other hand, weighing them up. When Shifty doesn't respond, Joey waves the watch in front of his nose and then quickly draws it back, reminding him just what's on the line. He's a good negotiator. That's something Shifty has never been all that good at, is negotiating. He operates stealthily and quietly, just takes what he wants on the sly. Joey fights for it. That, whether Shifty likes it or not, commands respect.
