Pro tip if you, like me, also partially dislicate your shoulder putting away books: Lush sells these fabric squares as wrappers for gifts and the larger sizes make for a very stylish sling!

Me when i won’t be given an official diagnosis because ✨it’s too expensive for the hospital✨ and apparently I ✨won’t really have a good enough reason to get one✨. (Aka I go to school and have learned to socialise well enough that others find me fun to be around. And they refuse to take in to account the amount that I fucking mask.)
But instead of the diagnosis I just get told that I get overstimulated easily and it’s just that why don’t like having people behind me and have to wear headphones almost at all times… anyways, I do get accommodations so I just did a four hour exam in a nice little work room with no one else in it and it was the greatest thing ever.
(My psychiatrist does think that I am, indeed autistic, so does my mother and me.)

I remember a post going around tumblr saying that you should never tell your employer why you can't make your shift/the thing that they want you to come in for last minute, and this is very true (and you should also do it while job searching - if you schedule an interview but then things change you can (and should) change to a better time for you and you still shouldn't tell them why (if you absolutely must and it's on short notice just say you're ill and refuse to elaborate further)) but I wanted to tell y'all that you should also do this about your disabilities - even if you're pre-diagnosis/self-diagnosed.
If you need disability accommodations from your workplace/potential future workplace, you should only tell them that you need these accommodations and NOT why.
i.e. I'm an autistic cane user, when communicating my needs to employers about this what I need to say is 'I need instructions to be clear and simple, please be aware that I may ask for them to be repeated or clarified further' and NOT 'I'm autistic and have auditory processing disorder', because not only does your employer not need to know that, but also it doesn't actually tell them what you need help/extra consideration with
Instead of: 'I have ADHD', you should say 'I need to move around so I can fully focus on my work, so I need a standing desk/kick bands on my chair/I will bring in office-appropriate devices that help me accomplish this' (aka 'I'm gonna use stim toys in the office and you are going to be okay with this')
Being disabled looks very different from person to person and employers are ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED to go along with your requests for accommodations, and they DO NOT need to know why you need them/when you were diagnosed (if you even have been)/all the specifics of your diagnosis

Fun little dyslexia tip: if you find editing sentences in paragraphs hard because there’s so many words next to it, that you have difficulty telling where the sentence you are working on is
may I suggest using in word docs, the bucket tool where every sentence is a different colour
Like you draft will be very rainbow but here’s some pros and cons
Pros:
You can tell what you are working on
The colour the sentence is stays the same when you delete and change words or add some
very colourful and you can choose which colours work best for you
cons:
Depending on how big and the amount of sentences you have it can take a while to colour everything. but you can just do a section or only the sentence you are working on is highlighted
Idk as it works very well for me so I’m not sure what else
and when you are done you just use the bucket to make the highlighted bits white again
my school drafts are very rainbow and it helps me write quicker without get tired as quickly
be glad if this helps anyone
