I don’t think I’ve ever been introduced to a new (to me) identity and not understood it. Idk like I might encounter a word I don’t know and be like “oh interesting what does that mean?” Or look it up. But once I get the basic explanation… that’s it right? What else is there to understand? Just cause I can’t personally relate doesn’t mean I can’t understand, so I feel like anyone who says “I don’t understand x identity” is just saying they don’t fully believe it in slightly more polite terms.
#like. you’ve been given a definition so you understand it just fine. you just don’t actually accept it#or maybe it disrupts your framework for thinking about identities in which case. again you understand you just aren’t adjusting your beliefs#accordingly.#a lot of the time ‘I don’t understand’ just means ‘I am not willing to adjust my worldview to incorporate your identity’
