Thing I love about the ace community: Y’all are so smart??? Like I’ve genuinely learned so much since I’ve been part of this community, and not necessarily all of it even has to do with aspec matters, just matters of attraction in general. There’s so much information to be spread and discussed here and I just think that’s so cool.
A friend of mine didn’t know about the existence of asexuality.
And i explained to her what it is. That is a spectrum. That a person can totally be asexual, or experiments sexual attraction in particular circumstances.
And she started to glow. She looked at me marveled, cause she had no idea that was a thing. She’s been struggling with her sexuality her whole life. Always feeling like she didn’t completely fit in any of the LGBT acronyms or hetero sexuality. She also had no idea about the disctintion between sexual attraction and romantic attraction.
She finally realised she may be asexual and biromantic (she’ll decide which terms fits her better, IF she wants to define herself), but i’ll never forget the look she gave me when i finished telling her about asexuality spectrum.
It seemed like she felt she wasn’t an alien anymore.
Labels matter to some people, and they can change their life for the best.
Starting and online ace zine archive... anyone interested in helping?
I’d like to start an online archive / library of ace zines. ( If we find any aro zines that aren’t also ace, I’d like to include them too. )
ParadoxNow is going to be working on this too, and has suggested a whole bunch of zines I’d never heard of… which is spectacular.
( I still haven’t had a chance to look into any of those zines, but I’m excited to do that once I get a chance. )
If anyone is interested in working with us on this, please let me know. We'll go from there.
( ParadoxNow and I both have a lot going on, so this will probably be a slow-going project— in true zine fashion— unless someone has a lot of time and energy they want to devote to this upfront. )
List of goals and project tasks...
Online ace zine archive / library goals:
listing all the names of ace-specific zines and zines with ace content we can find ( I would like to list them separately )
providing links to where people can download all these zines for free… so either hosting them or collecting the links to where the are hosted. Or how to go about getting zines who’s authors don’t want them posted freely online
including descriptions ( and maybe keywords ) of all these zines
Not really sure what the best way to go about all that.
Project tasks that I can see so far:
Trying to find zines we don’t already know about and trying to find links if they are already available online
Trying to contact the zines’ editors / creators for permission to post their zines ( particularly for the zines that don’t say things like “please copy and distribute freely” on them )
Setting up the website— maybe a wordpress
Procuring hard copies of zines we can’t get digital copies of, andscanning them to put them online ( if they’re okay to be distributed )
Reading the zines and writing up descriptions for them, and maybe key words
probably some other stuff I haven’t though about yet, like putting the word out once the archive / library is up and running
