Why am I a fan of Bullseye? Dex Poindexter edition!

a) I heavily related to the fact that Dex lacks empathy but can feel guilt to a certain degree. It makes me feel somewhat recognized.

b) This may be just me making up stuff but I love how he sometimes feels human and sometimes feels like he’s trying to mimic being a human. That to me really helps me feel a little more normal about sometimes being like that as well

c) His designs for season 1-2 are very appealing. They’re a nice adaptation of his comic costume. It takes a very simple look and makes it a little more detailed, I personally love it when live actions expand on the simple design and still try to make it not look complex. Also it’s very easy on the eyes and shows off the blue in his costume in a very satisfying way.

d) The lighting and his theme music are just a masterpiece. I love love LOVE the use of blue when he locks onto targets. Very creative! The use of rapid and chaotic paced violins to symbolize Dex’s current mindset is also perfect, even though that was more of the context for S3..now it’s more of just a sign that he is on screen.

Now the deep stuff

e) Dex getting groomed was like seeing a piece of my childhood play out in front of me. It was something that had taken a huge toll on me because it hit home so hard for me. Seeing Dex go through that in a way that didn’t make him feel like a joke or that grooming itself was a joke meant the world to me. I felt seen and validated for once in my life.

f) Dex’s depression in S3 was something. Seeing him almost kill himself was so much to me. I related so much to his current situation. Not only was he struggling with his own mental health but also being met with constant problems to the point where it made him not want to live hurt so bad because that is how I’ve felt for so long. Watching that scene for the first time was so much, but it was beautiful to see something like that be portrayed seriously for once.

What are my thoughts on the season 3 bullseye costume?

I kind of hate it. I think the costume itself is really good but the stupid cowl throws me off.

1. I hate the fact that it looks like a recolor of the daredevil cowl. I think that’s just really really dumb because I don’t think something like that fits Bullseye. I feel like Bullseye needs a mask that allows him to express himself even when his face is partially covered and the cowl fails to do that. It takes away Dex’s eyes and to me that’s very disappointing because we do see him show a lot of expression through them. Now he kind of just feels soulless which doesn’t exactly fit his character. Bullseye to me is someone that is capable of showing expression but being unable to truly feel and understand them.

2. The eyes just aren’t working for me. I think white eyes work well with other characters, but not Bullseye. Every time I look at the cowl I feel like I’m being flash banged because they’re so bright. If they were a little darker I think it would be much better to look at.

Overall it’s a 4/10 design at best.

In my personal opinion, I think these kind of designs only work in the comics.

Rewatching Daredevil born again and I feel crazy for thinking that the name drop for Bullseye was very random.

I don’t remember them mentioning Bullseye as a name for Dex at all so it’s just so weird. I feel like there was no actual build up to that.

Maybe I’m just crazy and need to rewatch DDBA all over again to jog my memory.
