how do you cosplay as a vegan
Promote your veganism! I do, mostly in my title! When I’ve done interviews (as few as they were), people have always asked me about my moniker. I basically illustrate that I incorporate veganism and animal rights into so many other aspects of my life (like cosplay) and that it’s very important to me.
Fabrics used! I do not use any animal fibers in my costumes: fur, leather, wool (which includes felt), scales (reptile skin), skulls, feathers, etc.
Make-up used! I use products that aren’t tested on animals. I don’t buy much make-up anymore, as so much of it has been a gradual collections over YEAAAAARS but I always do my best when researching companies.
Costumes made! I do my best to make my own costumes, but some of them are “piece togethers”. (When you just buy a bunch of stuff and hardly or do not modify those pieces.) I try to get them from more responsible companies or from small companies that make stuff.
Speaking out against animal cruelty in nerd/cosplay spaces! (Kind of in line with number one.) When the setting is right, I try to speak out against the use of fur, leather, etc in cosplay and just to overall promote veganism and animal rights.
And last but not least…COSPLAYING VEGAN/VEG CHARACTERS! The two I’ve done so far are Poison Ivy and Jeanette Francis from Liberator. I plan to do Beast Boy and Animal Man at some point in my life as well, and hopefully others too!
BONUS: Once I get my life more in order, I really really really want to start selling prints and donating a portion of those proceeds to animal rights companies/groups. A lot of people have expressed enthusiasm about this idea, so I think it could work once things start to fall in place. :3
