14. What do they care deeply about? What kind of loyalties, commitments, moral codes, life philosophies, passions, callings, or spirituality and faith do they have? How do these tend to be expressed?

EMMA — this question killed me for emma because from day one she was vibechecked and cursed with the unfortunate trait of caring Too Damn Much about anything and everything if it touches her heart, which she has slapped right onto her sleeve for everyone to see. so it’s like,,,, goddamn man, she cares about so much. all the time. no breaks from this shit. loyalties lie with her family, team hydra, the academy and the friends she’s made there (probably a few others i can’t think of?? but idk). emma’s moral code is “everyone should do good but if they haven’t, we should listen with an open mind to why they chose not to and decide if they should get help or the second chance that everyone is entitled to. and hey if they don’t let’s beat them up” and i think that’s pretty sexy of her. she Definitely feels as if adventuring and helping people are her callings because of how quickly she developed her abilities and magic, of course she’s destined for these things or else why would she be granted such gifts? emma’s faith is found in herself and her loved ones, but she doesn’t denounce or have any negative views of the deities. her passions are gardening, smooches, cinnamon rolls and doing everything she can to make the world a better place and probably some other things my brain is too broken to think of. everything is expressed so clearly in how emma is never Not moving or working, she is constantly doing whatever she can to either help people in the moment or prepare for ways she Can help them in the future. ACTUALLY to round it off, one of the things emma cares about the most is living up to expectations. whether they’re fabricated in her own head or not, she’s constantly thinking about how she needs to be Good and be Better so that she won’t let anybody down. the easiest way that this is displayed is how emma can be found studying or practicing at any chance that she can, the girl never takes proper time to rest unless it’s for sleep or on one of the few dates she’d specifically set time aside for. (and even then, she doubles up her work afterward to make up for it lmao)

LUCINDA — honestly this question is a fun way to talk about how i think that lucinda sometimes gets… lost. distanced from herself. as she grew older, her abilities grew stronger and so did the connections that she would make with the spirits and such that she’d interact with because of them. and it’s because of this that i think sometimes lucinda will drop so deeply into the mind of another that she’ll just,,, forget herself for a time. she’ll step into the mind of another while in a vision and come back foggy, mind cloudy and muddled by the thoughts and emotions of the person she’d just embodied. lucinda doesn’t necessarily have any Strong codes or philosophies or passions or faith, but for some of the entities that she comes in contact with she will be able to glance what they held in strong belief and it will stick with her for a time. this is expressed in how she will talk about those things for a time, or throw herself immediately into research about the subjects so that she can be better informed on them and explain them to others later on. her loyalties lie with her friends on the spooky crew and her family and the dedicated pursuit of knowledge and truth, but not much else outside of that. she’s a fairly neutral character by default, but when she’s given something to care deeply about then she will give it her all.

24. How do they present themselves socially? What distinguishes their “persona” from their “true self”, and what causes that difference?

EMMA — she [usually] puts her best foot forward and comes off as a kind, empathetic and trusting girl. her inexperience and flaws pop up at times because she simply cannot help it, but she always tries her best to remain gentle and open-minded whenever she can. her true self is a bit more,,, hm. it's not vastly different from how she is amongst most folk, but she's more at ease and it's noticed in her relaxed posture and willingness to snark/curse/etc. an emma that's less afraid of what everyone is thinking of her when she's in public and tries to not let her constant worrying about meeting expectations and being open/considerate dominate her thoughts.

LUCINDA — god, she just does not try hard at making good first impressions. what you see with lucinda is what you get: a girl in a nearly constant state of distracted, plenty interested in conversing and spending time with others yet often times drifting in focus when one of her abilities decides to take her for a spin because the poor girl hasn't figured out how to control them very much. the closest thing to a persona she would have is when she actively forces herself to play at "normal girl" to try and make others feel more comfortable around her, be it strangers, family or friends.

36. How much do they rely on their minds and intellect, versus other approaches like relying on instinct, intuition, faith and spirituality, or emotions? What is their opinion on this?

EMMA — always always always gets hit with intuition and instinct first, but sometimes emotion and intellect get their hats in the ring before any decisions are made. emma’s a very intuitive person and with those immediate gut checks comes the instinct to act on them with whatever solution her mind provides her, though there are some instances where her heart or brain will kick in and override whatever she was thoughtlessly about to do. i think she’s quite happy with this, outside of probably a few instances of being annoyed about the intellect kicking in to denounce her intuition/instincts. annoyed isn’t the perfect word here but it’s close enough for how she feels when even her own mind can clearly tell “hey, this is a stupid reaction” and she has to sit there and sort out her thoughts when she prides herself on having such great intuition.

LUCINDA — intuition and spirituality for when she’s dealing with the supernatural/paranormal, with instinct and intellect being used for most everything else. intuition easily comes with the whole deal as a medium, as does spirituality, lucinda almost always operates on intuition while she’s in the middle of “working her magic” and it hasn’t failed her yet. sometimes she’ll have to fallback and rely on her instincts or intellect if things start feeling off, but those are usually for operating in the day-to-day when she Can’t rely on the spirits around her to show her the way or guide her hand to whatever they’re trying to communicate with her. she’s lucinda man, she sees nothing wrong with any of it and feels great about them all.

41. What associations do they bring to mind? Words or phrases, images, metaphors or motifs? Why?

EMMA — the words prodigy, expectations and vibrant. images of wolves and noble clothing, nature and library aesthetics, smiles and plump body parts, happy moments with friends and critters. the colors green, yellow and brown. textures of fur and silk, lace and embroidered fabrics, soft skin and sticking your hands into the dirt of a garden. motifs of wolves, worrying about expectations, and too much love to handle. phrases that come to mind for emma are “may the flowers remind us why the rain was so necessary”, “see good in all things”, and "i still remember you as a little who who overwaters plants because she doesn't know when to stop giving." ((also the goof one of "i'm eating a hot pocket and i think it represents me // bc i'm hot and i can fit in a pocket"))

LUCINDA — the words haunted, absent-minded, and monachopsis (aka: the subtle but persistent feeling of being out of place). images of vintage clothing and décor, empty scenery and packed bookshelves, manors and photos that give you an uneasy feeling in your gut. the colors brown, grey and blue. textures of wool and cotton, tweed and a warm mug of tea between your hands, pages of a book between your fingers and the cold touch of wallpaper passing beneath your hand. vibes of standing in an corridor and listening to the silence of an empty space, that feeling of rising apprehension when the alarms in your mind start to raise, the distinct feeling of eyes on you as you walk through a dark hallway, the awareness that you are not entirely present in the moment but not deigning to return to reality just yet. so many fuckn horror motifs i won’t list them, though up there are darkness, cold and drifting away from “reality” because of the spirits calling her attention. phrases for lucinda would be “i can't exactly describe how i feel but it's not quite right. and it leaves me cold", "it is part of her beauty. this quality of being not quite there, dreamlike" and “last night i saw upon the stair, a little man who wasn’t there. he wasn’t there again today. oh, how i wish he’d go away…”
