Well it’s definitely Scottish cause it’s got the same pineapple looking thingiemabobs as on my alma mater’s crest all over the decorative silver portions of the hilt. Wasn’t Lady Macbeth Scottish? That was my second favorite play in high school, because of her. This totally looks like the kinda dagger she’d use for murder.

am I the only one who wants to read/see kent parson's first real fight (tm) in the NHL and know what it was about? How he gets out of it? If Swoops immediately comes in to help?

I’m actually working on a fic slightly about this. Since Kent’s a little on the small size for an NHL player, and very valuable, he’s a big ‘ol target for violence; so what the Aces probably did for him was hire a bodyguard. Big strong strapping D-man who protects him during plays, and/or fucks up anyone who messes with him.

Most of this probably works on the level of penalties and generally messing with him before it ever works its way up to fighting. Tripping, slashing, that kind of thing. If he doesn’t like you, it’s more efficient for him to just insert his stick right where it’s gonna hurt, leave you with an injury and steal your puck, while fighting means a stoppage in play. 

One thing I remember reading recently about Wayne Gretzky is that if an opposing player was treating him in a way he disliked, he’d go out of his way to humiliate them. Make him angry in the second period and in the third he’d score three points off you in the most annoying way possible. Which strikes me as a very Kent Parson move. (Gretzky only fought three times in his NHL career.)

I was watching women’s hockey last night and was amazed at how chippy it was--no legal checking, no fighting, but really blatant penalties, really aggressive play. I think sometimes we get hung up on fistfighting and even checking as the be-all and end-all of hockey violence, when there are so many subtle, insidious, sometimes invisible ways to really fuck with people. ^_^

Anyway: Yes, his teammates immediately grab their nearest opponent and keep anyone else from piling onto Kent. Then they see if he looks like he wants to be rescued. If it’s a fight where he sincerely seems to desire to clobber the other guy, then they stand by and watch him do it in respectful silence, as is only proper for true Bros.

mood lmfao. it's so weird. My neighbor (who is my age) literally had her 2nd kid a while back and i'm like..barely out of teenhood, still looking for a stable job u_u)

Yeah, I  mean, hockey is, at many times, bloodsport on knife shoes and that bleeds into the fanbases, but like, you gotta have some common sense. You don’t fight Tie Domi. Even now, years retired, you don’t fight Tie Domi. You do not fight Chara; his stick is taller than you are. See the same re: The Big Rig. If Ovi is trying to check you, you run away.

But Philly fans, of all sports, they’re just a special class.

(There’s actually some really interesting articles out there about Philly’s sports fanbase rep and how some of it is undeserved, and some of it is purely classism bullshit, and how people can’t let go of things that happened fifty-sixty years ago. And honestly, all fanbases have their bad seeds. And it’s not like Philly fans ever set the streets on fire like the Canucks fans did. And Oilers fans. And Habs fans. Honestly, wtf Canada? Okay, fine, Phillies fans DID riot after the WS win but it’s nothing like what the Canucks fanbase did.)

But yeah I’m curious to see what happens re: this Super Bowl bc look, someone’s already driven a dune buggy up the Rocky Steps. And even though the police have greased the lamp posts with Crisco to stop people from climbing them, they’ve already overcome that tactic.

So, it’s going to be interesting is all I’m going to say.

i think so? i mean im going on 27 soon but i had my Peak Emo phase during my high school years (which everyone found weird but idc) & slowly 'grew out" of it by 2009 (hello discovering Muse!) but i still listen to a few with great delight <3

Aw yeah! I’ll be 29 in a couple of months, so we’d have been in high school around the same time :) tbh I think my high school years was Peak Emo Popularity - I more or less grew out of it around the time I graduated (2006), so stuff that came out after this I don’t know as well, but I still like some of them, too! Nostalgia is a factor, but some songs were just really catchy :D

i’ve been seeing a lot of captions lately, on all sorts of posts, saying things like “gif not mine” and “i don’t know who drew this” and i just want to say as a fandom we should. really stop doing that. please, either reblog these things from the source or at least link to where you got it! i know a lot of people in hbo war are new to the fandom, so i've been putting off making this because i don’t want to hurt feelings, but it’s wrong. it’s bad. it’s stealing. it's just as rude as if i were copying and pasting your fics and posting them on my ao3. 

long story short: stop stop stop stealing people’s edits and gifs! reblog the work straight from the creator if you can. if you can’t, link to the place you found it or tag the creator. if you can’t do any of these, don’t use the image. please.
