ALBUM REVIEW: Old Blood - Acid Doom - Metal Assault Records
ALBUM REVIEW: Old Blood – Acid Doom – Metal Assault Records
It’s oddly satisfying when an album’s title is also an accurate descriptor for the music it contains. This is more or less the case with Old Blood’s second full-length album, Acid Doom (DHU Records/Metal Assault Records). While the group’s style may not be crushing in the traditional sense, their brand of Heavy Psych has a dark sultriness that should sit well with fans of groups like Uncle Acida…

Video Transmission: Old Blood - Orbit
"who do you think you are?" sings Lynx on new Old Blood tune Orbit. If you haven't seen this yet, then who you are is nobody special, so be sure to correct this! #oldblood #aciddoom #orbit #dhurecords #metalassaultrecords
Enter the realm of madness, of bittersweet violence, of apoplectic delirium. Acid King - Down With The Crown / Free... [2010, Kreation Records]
This compilation brings together material contributed by Acid King to two different releases.
Down With The Crown, originally issued as a 10" EP in 1997 by Man's Ruin Records (and thrown in on a split with Altamont the same year, on the same label), finds Acid King indulging their love of heavy acid rock, with three songs ("Teen Dusthead", "Full Reverse", and the sizable "Phase II") that chug, pound, rattle, wail, and buzz their way along, like an old locomotive driving itself to pieces on a desert rail.
Free... was originally part of a split with The Mystick Crewe Of Clearlight (basically an EyeHateGod side-project for when one of EHG's members was in jail), released in 2000 on Man's Ruin Records. It opens with a drawn-out string resolving into a heavy rock riff, and proceeds to spin out from there, tearing out long cuts of reverb and letting them sizzle.
The two sides add up to a nice compilation, which cuts two hard-to-find records out of the list of stuff to track down for fans of the band. If you fall into that category, or want to hear some Church Of Misery-like '70s-homaging doom, pick up a copy and give it a listen.
