Velox Ward was a self-taught painter from East Texas. He used paper cut-outs in his process for making paintings. He repurposed some of those materials in collages. The museum acquired a few of these collage pieces in 1972, the year Ward was given a solo exhibition at the museum. Two of Ward’s memory paintings are now on loan to the museum and can be seen in the exhibition Texas Folk Art, through September 19, 2016.
