Mike Morton is an incredibly lonely person when you really think about.

Taken from nothing, the only person who gave him “stability” (term used very lightly) was not exactly someone Mike could open up to.

Murro cared for him but I don’t imagine he was in any position to truly be a shoulder for Mike. And, even if he was capable of doing so, he eventually has Mike help him fake his own death, leaving Mike alone.

While he does care for Violetta, their interactions felt very superficial; More like a big brother to a littler sister he finds annoying.

And while Joker and Mike may have once been close I’m sure there was still a gap between them formed by Bernard’s treatment of Mike vs the Others.

I also can’t imagine he was close to Margie much if at all as he seemingly enjoying Sergi’s presence which I can imagine would force the two apart.

With that in mind the only person Mike could ever rely on was Bernard and when he was gone, when the rest of the circus left too, Mike had absolutely no one to help him clean up the mess. It’s no surprise he doesn’t talk about his true feelings, he’s never had the chance to even do so if he wanted to in the first place.

Just by looking at this drawing, I've been noticing how much lower they've been making the collars of his shirts, lower and lower.

Other people from the Circus dislike how ‘easy’ Mike had it in regards the abuse from Bernard. The favouritism was obvious in the way Mike seemed to always hold his attention, his smile, his gentle touches. To a good majority of Circus members Mike was the only one who was safe…

The issue is the abuse he was facing was the complete opposite.

Where others were neglected and harmed Mike was praised and groomed.

Everyone in Hullabaloo is an imperfect victim; they “choose” to stay, they fight back, they allow the wool to be pulled over their eyes.

Mike could never see what was wrong because Bernard ‘loved’ him and used his childish ideals of the magic of a circus to lure him in. Mike was just as abused as everyone else, he was just the only one Bernard wanted to keep closest was all.
