one thing i think an action show or something like that needs is the protagonist looking into the bathroom mirror at the end of the first week of whatever plot they’ve stumbled into and say, “i was not prepared for this week”

and then much later when everything’s gone to shit they suddenly have a flashback to that exact goddamn moment and just sigh and keep doing whatever they were doing
