Connections with Castiel by BlueMasquerade

Semi-famous PBS TV show host Castiel Novak was successful now. 'Connections with Castiel' was surprisingly popular, considering its subject matter of history, art, and architecture around the world.
Dean Winchester had overcome many life challenges to finally make something of himself. He liked teaching high school English, and he was so proud of the successful life Sam had built for himself that he couldn't even begin to express it. His biggest regret was the way he'd panicked and blown up his relationship with Castiel Novak, a decade in the past. When one of his students introduced him to a popular new PBS show, he was floored to realize the host was none other than Castiel. His Castiel.
When Sam invited both Dean and Cas to dinner, would they finally get over each other once and for all? Or could this be a chance to finally reconnect for good?
I fell in love with this fic from the start. High school teacher Dean is always a treat, and this version of him is chef’s kiss. He’s living alone, a little lonely, and maybe still pining for the guy he royally screwed things up with, back when they were in school. And let me tell you, Dean really messed up here, and thanks to the split POV, we get to see how he and Cas both dealt with those choices, and the regrets they still have.
This story has a little bit of everything which is another reason I enjoyed it so much. A little angst, appropriate pining levels for a Pinefest, a reunion, a road trip, I mean I could keep going but I really think this fic is worth checking out, even without me telling you that it also comes with a side of Sam doing a little meddling to bring Dean and Cas back together. It hits so many good tropes, that I promise you won’t be disappointed if you give this story a read.

Dean Winchester had practically been injected with pure light served with a side of ecstasy. The premiere of his movie had turned into a massive celebration. Celebrities who hadn’t even worked on the movie had shown up. There was the endless red carpet, flashing cameras, interspersed with small interviews here and there, autographs, and lots of laughter and smiles.
Before he’d become a big actor, Dean had always thought this was so fake. For some it definitely was, but he could feel the high energy, could feel the sincerity in his fellow actors with the way they smiled.
His eyes lit up. Farther down the carpet, answering questions during an interview with someone who held a massive black mic labeled as “EMPIRE,” was his effervescent and radiant co-star, Castiel.
Working with him had been a dream. They’d both been on the scene for about the same amount of time, but they’d always ended up doing different movies.
Cas had gone towards sci-fi, Dean towards superhero. Now, with dystopian post-apocalyptic, they’d finally had their chance to work together. Dean had seen Cas’ work previous to this, and now, being up close and personal with that and the way he worked had made this the best year of Dean’s life.
Dean filled out his final autograph for this stretch of carpet, and then headed towards his co-star with a wide smile.
Excited, stomach light and airy, Dean grabbed Cas’ face and went in for a kiss on the cheek. (Which was nothing they hadn’t done before.)
At that moment, Cas turned his head.
Their lips met.
Shock radiated through Dean as if ice had been poured down the back of his shirt. He pulled away, and could only stare for a few moments. Cas’ captivating blue eyes were wide, stunned.
The elated screams were incoherent, and had risen to a nearly impossible pitch. So… people had seen that.
Despite what had happened, Dean still held him.
He laughed, rubbing at the stubble on his friend’s left cheek. “Wow, these lights are too bright. I couldn’t aim properly!” He’d said it for Cas, and said it for the cameras and the multitude of microphones that would pick this up.
Cas got the joke, and he was laughing too, saying, “Don’t lie, honey. We’re getting the engagement rings tomorrow.”
Dean threw his head back, laughing heartily. He hugged Cas hard, clapping him on the back.
“Sorry about that, buddy,” he whispered.
“Don’t worry about it.”

After watching the movie, and now at a party, Dean found himself in the bathroom, blinking into the mirror, wondering if all this was real. How could it be? Getting to work on this movie had been fantastic. Meeting fans always made him blush with what still might’ve been embarrassment. And everything was so overwhelming. So. Incredibly. Overwhelming. And then there was Cas. Wonderful, wonderful Cas. And they’d kissed. Accidentally.
God, Dean had screwed this all up.
He was just supposed to be friends with him! Nothing more, nothing less. He couldn’t do this, could he? Have a relationship that would be in the spotlight? Admit he even liked Cas in that way? And what about the countless articles there’d be about his sexuality? And the fans being homophobic?
And, Dean wondered, was Cas even into men like that?
Dean hadn’t always been entirely sure he was, but that kiss had solidified it. Dean was impossibly hooked on men, and one man in particular.
Shit.
He’d really fucked this up.
A knock sounded on the door, easily heard since the bathroom Dean was in was on the third floor, away from the party. Still, music could be heard thumping throughout the mansion.
He cleared his throat. “Yeah, I’ll be out in a minute,” Dean said.
And he’d left the door open a smidge. That was enough for Cas to push it open and poke his head in.
“Hey, I’ve been missing you downstairs. Everything okay?”
“Yeah,” Dean answered, trying to pull himself together and hide everything he was feeling. “Yeah, I’m all right.”
Cas came in, and closed the door behind him.
Dean had seen enough porn to wonder what was going to happen next.
Breathing hard, he asked, “Cas, what are you doin’?”
He shrugged as a response. The wordlessness of it frustrated Dean, and imbued him with the urge to grab him and taste his tongue, if only in frustration. To rip his clothes off, to rake nails down his back. To—
Right. Reality.
“Look, about earlier— I didn’t mean— It’s—”
“—fine,” Cas finished the sentence, taking it in a direction that Dean hadn’t expected. In the back of his head, for hours, all he’d been able to think about were Cas’ inviting, pink lips. And now, here they were in front of him. His stomach clenched. Dare he take this opportunity? Was Cas saying he wanted this too? “It was an accident.”
Dean swallowed back his disappointment, and nodded. “Right. Yeah. Accident. You’re right. So… maybe we should get back to the party.”
Cas came in close, and Dean ended up backing up towards towards the counter. The ideas running rampant through his head left his body tingling, fingers twitching slightly with the want to reach out and grab his co-star.
“Maybe,” Cas answered.
Their lips came together, and Dean was so god damn happy this time wasn’t an accident.
Cas pulled away. “Is that okay?”
“Absolutely,” Dean growled, before pulling Cas towards him again, and letting his co-star shove him up onto the counter. In between kisses, Dean murmured, “Abso—fucking—lutely.”
Is this too detailed? If it is I'll take ANYTHING destiel you feel like writing, but can I have PA!Dean/Actor!Cas from Cas' perspective. Dean's a great PA, but Cas is shy and new to set (maybe it's a long-running tv show). IDK, IDK. You just make my day though no matter what you write. Good or bad days, I visit your blog and smile! <3
((Aww thank you Anon! I’ll try my best!))
He’s really a wonderful man. He’s always eager and willing to help Castiel navigate around the set, no matter how busy or tired or haggard he looks he always makes time to talk Castiel through the show or some of the characters he’d had trouble clicking with - being a newcomer to a show going into its eighth season has a lot of pressure he needs to live up to, since it’s the number one show of its network, and he wants to do well. Some of the actors have been less than welcoming, however, and while their characters and his get along, Castiel can sense that animosity underneath and truth be told it gets to him every now and again.
But Dean is the one ray of hope - he knows everyone, has been with the show since its very beginning, and he knows all the tricks of the trade that Castiel never had to rely on. He knows that the reason Tom’s been getting pissy with him is because he needs at least three cups of coffee to function, let alone run a scene, and he barely skates by on two before they start filming. He knows that Olivia kind of has a prejudice against him because he beat out one of her friends for the part so she wants to avoid him to keep her friendship - an action he doesn’t condemn, but would have liked to know going in.
Dean is wonderful, and his only friend on the set. They spend most of lunch eating together and talking. Dean tells Castiel about all the ridiculous things that go on set, the near-Hellish life of a PA sometimes, the divas he’s had to deal with (and sometimes still does).
"You don’t deserve that," Castiel says, sincere. "You’re so much better than that, Dean." And it’s true - his eyes are expressive and beautiful, he’s as talented as anyone here - when they go through lines together, Castiel cannot help but wish that it were Dean he was acting with, not anyone else. "You should be an actor, too - get the recognition you deserve."
Dean always blushes when he says that. “You’re biased,” he says shyly, but his smile is worth a hundred more hours with unbearable coworkers and writers who wouldn’t know continuity if it bit them in the ass.
But he insists, because it’s true, and when Dean comes to work one day he’s sombre. “I’ve been asked to audition for a part coming out,” he says, shrugging and shaking his head. “No idea how they even got my resume, thing’s years old, but… If I get it, it’s a lead part. Contracted for at least five years.”
Castiel cannot believe it. He’s speechless. “If I get it…will you follow me?” Dean asks, voice hoarse and hesitant like he’s drowning in guilt over asking this question.
But Castiel is already nodding. “I’d follow you anywhere, Dean,” he says, and he means it. Dean is the light of his life, even if right now they’re merely good friends. He hopes that will change in the future, but for now he can simply be happy for Dean and want all the best things in the world for him.
Dean blushes, eyes dipping down, and smiles more widely. “Good, Cas. I’m glad. Wouldn’t be the same without you.”
"I’m glad you think so," Castiel says, shrugging one shoulder and doing his best to act like those words don’t put butterflies in his stomach. It’s a close thing, but he thinks he pulls it off. After all, he is an actor.
