Actor Challenge: Aaron Taylor Johnson

When watching “Avengers: Age of Ultron” for the first time, the actor who played Quicksilver was bugging me because I knew, I knew who he was but I couldn’t place him.  Then, after the movie was over and a goggle search was done, I raised my eyebrows in disbelief, “He’s the actor from Kickass? Huh.”

After learning more about Aaron Taylor Johnson, I thought, He’s perfect for an actor challenge.

An actor challenge is a fun challenge where I watch an actor’s entire body of work in film. Aaron is a good pick since he’s young and doesn’t have a massive collection and I’m eager to see his range as an actor and I haven’t seen many of his movies.  My summer goal is to watch every movie, the good and the bad of Aaron Taylor Johnson.

sometimes i want to give up on my actor challenge because i have sat through SO many horrible movies (Fred Claus right now for Kevin Spacey) but at the same time it helps me find some hidden jems that i've never even heard of, that end up being pretty good! …but they're mostly awful.

Actor Challenge - Question and Answer Form

I don't have time to do the 30 day challenge, so I'm answering it all in one go. Can't remember if I've done this before or not, so I'm doing it just in case.

Here we go.

1. Favorite Male Actor

Gary Oldman. Hands down., every time. He is so mind-blowingly talented and (seems to be) humble and really down to earth. He's such an inspiration to everybody, actor or not. He is the ultimate chameleon and I just absolutely love him. He is and will always be my most favorite actor of all time. 

2. Favorite Female Actor

I'd say Helena Bonham Carter.

3. Favorite Child Actor

That might have to be Jared Gilmore, from Once Upon A Time. I think he's really good.

  4. Favorite Stage Actor

Well, he's been in a ton of movies and Broadway productions, so I'll assume he counts: Nathan Lane.

5. Least Favorite Actor

Least Favorite Male Actor - Brad Pitt. Just don't like him. Nothing against him personally, I just can't get into him. 

Least favorite female actor - Kristen Stewart. She's just so emotionless and just all around 'blah'.

  6. A Movie You Love With An Actor You Hate

Little Monsters is the movie. Frank Whaley is the actor I can't stand. It's nothing against him, it's just he really annoyed me in that movie, and now I can't see him in anything else without being reminded of how irritating he was as Boy in Little Monsters.

7. A Movie You Hate With An Actor You Love

Twilight Saga. Billy Burke. I can't stand Twilight, and I absolutely love Billy Burke. The sad thing is, those movies don't show his incredible talent, and it's a tragedy, because he really is majorly talented.

8. An Actor You Used To Like But Don't Anymore

Spencer Breslin. I couldn't really think of anyone else. I kinda liked him. Just kinda outgrew my liking of him, I guess.

I have no idea. Er...most of the actors that I like, I have liked since I 'discovered' them. If I don't like an actor, usually they stay on my 'I don't like them' list.

Heath Ledger.

Silas Weir Mitchell, OR Misha Collins. Either one.

Jim Cummings. If you don't know who he is, look him up. He's amazing.

Nobody seems to like Nicolas Cage, but I really like him. Sure, he's not the best actor ever, but he's not nearly as bad as everyone seems to think, at least not in my opinion.

I know a lot of people that really like Shia LaBeouf and I just don't like him. I don't know exactly why...

Gary Oldman. I thought we covered this?

I don't watch a lot of horror, so I don't really have a favorite horror actor.

Well, I'm gonna say Billy Burke, although he's more actor than musician, so I don't know if that counts. He started off in music I think though and then got into acting when the music didn't pan out. But now he's got a CD out. It's really good.

Uh...ah...well...where to start? =D

Misha Collins, Benedict Cumberbatch, David Thewlis, Gary Oldman (and so many more) but it's more than just being attracted to them - I respect them and admire them, too.

Michael Emerson usually gets typecast as the enigmatic/sinister/just creepy characters, but he's absolutely brilliant. I love Michael.

Day 20: Favorite scene(s) in a play you’ve worked on. Why?

Oh gosh. Whats up with all these super hard questions?

ok. here is the list:

 The scene between Ellen and Michael in Two Rooms by Lee Blessing. It is extraordinarily powerful and moving and it challenged me so much as an actor!

Act 3 in Our Town. When done correctly, it is so moving and again, powerful.

I loved directing the scene where Annie and Frank first meet in Annie Get Your Gun, and their scene on the train when they both realize that they are attracted to each other.

Mrs. Brummette's monologue and her first argument with Treva in Gulf View Drive were amazing to work on and were very challenging. 

The scene between Hannah and Edith in Edith Stein that I worked on in one of my acting classes this year in college. It really forced me to think a lot more about character than I ever have before.

Even though we never actually got a chance to do the show, working on the really sensitive/touchy/easily explosive scenes between Claire and Catherine in Proof was a great experience for me. 

ummm...I don't know? The wedding scene in Brigadoon was super fun, and I'm sure there are a lot more, but I don't feel like sitting here all night and writing them out.
