Not to riff but what a missed opportunity? Those themes - fear as a limiting factor and how England as a country, not just a football culture, needs to come to terms with losing - deserved better, you know? Better than that on-the-nose script, pantomime characters (“footballers are thick!”), cheap jokes (“Milton Keynes is shit so let’s use that to dodge exploring how multiracial England might relate to that flag; chuck in some morris dancers instead!”) and the most half-arsed engagement with progressive politics you could imagine (“Tories can’t take pens!”)
