My submission for DeviantArt pride! The theme was sunlight/energy for yellow pieces and I tried to stick with this theme throughout mine
I wanted to submit this as a symbol of a lesser-discussed part of the LGBT+ community. So less-discussed, that there's still some debate as to whether or not this belongs in the LGBT+ community! In case you couldn't tell from the massive heart/infinite symbol, I'm talking about polyamory :P
Polyamory is the act of loving more than one person. It's not cheating, cuckholding or swinging, and most people define it as "ethical non-monogamy". It's not for everyone, but those who are polyamorous are dedicated, good communicators and always willing to process feelings.
There's another aspect to this piece which I wanted to talk about: Compersion. Compersion is defined by google as: Noun. compersion (uncountable) The feeling of joy one has experiencing another's joy, such as in witnessing a toddler's joy and feeling joy in response. The feeling of joy associated with seeing a loved one love another; contrasted with jealousy.
This is also seen in the polyamory community, though in a slightly different way. It's a hard feeling to explain to most monogamous people, but it's when you're really really happy that one of your other partners is enjoying themselves with another partner! It's a bit like the joy you get when shipping fictional characters- you're happy that they're in a loving, healthy relationship.
I love feeling compersion. It's such a wonderful, light emotion and I honestly feel like I could save the world if I could channel my feelings into superpowers! That's why I went for a yellow theme: because loving someone and feeling happy for them is an energising, joyous, giddy feeling!
Want to read more about polyamory? I'd highly recommend the webcomic series @kimchicuddles! Start reading it here. Go forth and love without limits!
Oh, and if you think that Poly people don't belong in the LGBT+ community, that's fine, but I'm bi/pan too, and I think we face the same struggles no matter what!
