A Thought About Compersion

This is a term from polyamory and describes the happiness that you feel for your partner having also other romantic and/or sexual relationships. Some also see this as an opposite feeling of jealousy.

I experience a lot of compersion in my polycule, but I also experience a similar feeling in other fields of my life:

A fellow author gets bestselling status or wins a literature prize? I may be a bit envious, but mostly, I cheer for them.

A friend has had a nice vacation abroad? Tell me all about it.

A relative has had a good time at a party? I enjoy hearing about it.

Someone tells me about a hobby they love and I cannot relate? It doesn't matter, I feel happy for them nontheless. And I could go on with more examples.

I love this ♥️ my favorite word is actually used in a lot of poly circles! It’s Compersion which means deriving happiness from other’s happiness. (Usually a partner but doesn’t have to be)
