Contacting my inner Martha.
Surprise, surprise! This weekend, I discovered a gigantic forsythia bush in my backyard. The blooms are positively KILLIN' it right now, so I harvested a bunch for inside the house as a reminder of spring. Their cheery yellowness is especially welcome on a day like today---- the Weather Channel actually called for "soaking rain from morning 'til night." Awesome.
This past weekend was great. Towers' birthday was Saturday, and a few friends from out of town came in on Sunday to celebrate with cookie cake and Jameson. When the last one left yesterday afternoon, I was suddenly struck with a major case of the "why-mes". But the why-mes are the most pointless emotions ever, so I won't even waste your time whining about them here. I sat around in a self-doubt induced puddle for about an hour, then hoisted my butt off of our pheasanty couch and went outside with Lu to see the forsythia.
I've been meaning to take down our Christmas wreath anyway (SHUT UP I KNOW ITS MARCH WHATEVER) so I decided to use the skeleton of the wreath to make my own spritely one with forsythia blossoms and leaves from the huge acuba japonica plants surrounding my house. I am in no way a professional wreath-maker or florist, so I won't bore you with the step-by-step of what I did. I'll just share the pictures and end result!
The Lu is incapable of letting me do anything on my own.
We allll see you, Lu.
The final product!!
After I made this wreath, I felt a whooooole lot better, so I decided to continue DOING things instead of sitting in grief. I did the dishes, then made myself a glorious dinner of two balsamic fried local eggs with wilted greens (recipe ganked from CHOW, featured down below in this blog) complete with a hunk of bread and St. Andre cheese and a tall, super classy cocktail of Pamplemousse LaCroix and white wine. I topped it all off with a super-easy two ingredient test-run batch of brown sugar meringues. Tonight I'm making more, but I'm gonna get fancy with flavor. Also on the agenda: Waiting for Superman. Hooray!
