Spiders.... I found a spider on my towel as I headed for the shower this morning. In a fit of fright, I wafted the towel all toreador-style and launched the beastie across the room, right at the precise moment I realised that in doing so, I would lose it and it could be crawling inside my shoes or the knickers I'd laid out. I eventually found it and put it outside. I did some stuff then went into the hall and lo, there was a spider on the carpet! Was it back to haunt me?!
Kettlehell.... I will probably post more stuff about this in the future. I hate it, it's torture but I managed the class, after my 7 day work slog, without throwing up, launching the kettlebell across the room or dropping it and giving myself a skull fracture. Result.
Kicking some schizophrenia ass... I've been working for 7 days straight. I've watched a girl with schizophrenia get worse every day. I'm new to the ward and the staff who know her say this is the normal course of her illness. She hits a downward spiral to the point she needs IPCU. Apparently the doctors never change her meds, she just rides out the storm for a month or so. She used to be beautiful, now her mind and body are ravaged by years of illness. Almost nothing she says makes any sense. In her waking hours, she is constantly paranoid, delusional and floridly hallucinated. Her sleep is minimal and, as I described it to a student today, she is DRIVEN by the psychosis. She gets no rest from it and is clearly tortured by it. I see her with fresh eyes and didn't like what I saw so called in the big guns. Thankfully, the consultant is very respectful of nursing opinion and did as I asked, despite the fact that I was asking for something very rarely used. One wee injection that, as we say in nursey parlance, "flattens" folk. For days. The body can rest. The mind can rest. And the psychosis can start to get to fuck.
