A/N: I know like 20 people maybe watched the one season of Spooksville in 2013 but, I love it. It’s one of my comfort shows, and I adore Watch Waverly, so this was born of that. Based entirely on conceptions from the short-lived TV show as I never read the books. <3
Synopsis: Watch doesn’t really ‘get’ love or attraction, but the new girl in town just might change his perspective.
CW: Parental death (mention)

He didn’t believe in love at first sight. He always looked to scientific explanations first, and he knew all about oxytocin and dopamine and the chemical reaction that occurred in the brain in order to create feelings that were called ‘love’ by humans. But what are we really, if not just our brain and its reactions to its environment? However, he still assumed that these kinds of reactions and connections had to be created over time. It wasn’t that he didn’t entirely believe in love. He loved his mother and his father; he loved Sally and Adam, but these were all platonic. He believed in romantic love, too, once. He believed his parents were in love until his mom started dating Officer Dugan long after his father passed. While people told him that after years of mourning, it was okay for her to move on, Watch didn’t entirely buy it. If romantic love was all it was made out to be, shouldn’t it be just towards one person forever? That’s why he had his doubts that it may even exist at all. Either way, he was far too rational to believe that it could happen instantaneously and immediately. That is, of course, until he literally bumped into her.
It was a gray, cloudy morning, typical for Spooksville. He was on his own in town because both Adam and Sally were resigned to family events: Adam’s dad had taken him camping (which was a terrifying prospect in the woods of Spooksville and they were all just hoping he came back in one piece), and Sally’s were forcing her to go to an art gallery opening in the next town over. The Wilcoxes were obsessed with creating a new image for themselves and this was just the latest attempt in that pursuit. Watch, however, was never really obligated to his mom. She asked him for so little. He wasn’t sure if that was because she knew that that was his way, that he preferred being alone or doing his own thing, or if she still felt guilty about his father’s death and her moving on with Karl. But, he appreciated this opportunity to go to the library. While his team wasn’t researching any particular case right now, he still liked to read and gain knowledge any time he could. There was no telling when some inane fact might come in handy. He was, of course, in the supernatural section of the library, currently. In a town like Spooksville, most of their cases had unnatural causes and being prepared for them and having the background information these books could provide would be very useful. He wasn’t paying any attention to his surroundings; rather, he was reading the titles along the spines of the books and was beginning to pull one out when he took a step back to examine it.
Had he been aware, he would have noticed the girl behind him on her tiptoes, trying to dislodge a book for herself, and, in doing so, losing her balance. Her stumbling stance backward collided with his pull from the bookshelf. All of the publications she was holding precariously in her left arm now tumbled to the floor. “Oh, gosh. I’m sorry, are you okay?” She asked and he turned around to look at her. That was when he began to doubt his previous theory. Taking in the dark red hair that landed just below her shoulders and her wide, blue-green eyes, he felt a spark. His whole body immediately became warmer and he could feel his heart being squeezed in his chest before the beats paced at an abnormal rate. Watch was rarely even attracted to other people. Sure, he understood ratios and symmetry and other things that society deemed attractive where he could recognize when someone should be. Like Adam with his dark, round eyes and strong jawline, or Sally with her small frame and doll-like features. But he hadn’t actually felt attracted to someone before. He gulped as a result of this new sensation and situation before realizing she had asked him a question and was waiting for a response.
“I’m...I’m fine. Are you okay?”
“Oh. Yes, thanks. I just---sorry, again.” She stated and then stooped to collect the spilled books. Before even realizing he was making a motion, Watch was on his hands and knees beside her, helping to recreate the stack.
“Here, let me help--” He began
“Oh, thank you--” They both cut themselves off as their hands touched briefly at the top of the stack. He could feel the charge tingle his skin and withdrew, quickly. Another new reaction to analyze. He certainly had never felt that before. She froze for a moment and then quickly picked up the volumes and stood up, clutching them to her plaid-covered chest for protection and they looked at each other for a moment.
“You’re new, right? I mean, small town and I’ve never seen you before.” Watch asked, eyeing her skeptically. He felt like he would remember her if he had seen her before. However, he couldn’t be sure since he didn’t notice her behind him now until they crashed into each other.
“I just moved here, with my mom,” she nodded, confirming his question. “I’m Jules.”
“Watch,” he said, indicating himself putting a hand on his chest and immediately feeling stupid. Like this was some ‘me, Tarzan, you, Jane’ situation. “Watch Waverly.”
“Watch…?” She asked, doubtfully. Of course, that wasn’t his real name, but that’s what everyone called him, including his mother, and what he preferred, so he introduced himself that way. He nodded in a similar way she had and could see the recognition in her eyes, accepting his name. “Oh. Well, sorry again, for bumping into you, Watch. Thanks for helping me with the--” she indicated her own stack and he noted titles related to the occult. Instantly, he was intrigued, but she quickly turned and walked away. While Watch didn’t understand many actions and interactions of his peers, he could read that this conversation was done and she had somewhere else to be, but he was still entranced by this new girl, this Jules, and why she had come to town.
