Nevada Independent obtains letter from Adam Laxalt’s family praising Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto

Adam Laxalt is the GOP candidate for US Senate from Nevada. He is already famous for being an anti-abortion extremist who called Roe v. Wade “a joke”.

So now 14 members of Laxalt’s family have endorsed his Democratic opponent, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto.

In the close-run race for US Senate in Nevada, 14 members of the Republican candidate’s family endorsed his Democratic opponent.

On Wednesday, the Nevada Independent obtained a letter from 14 members of the Laxalt family.

“We believe that Catherine possesses a set of qualities that clearly speak of what we like to call ‘Nevada grit’,” the letter said, adding: “No further comments will be made, as we believe this letter speaks for itself.”

The Cortez Masto vs. Laxalt contest may be the closest US Senate race in 2022. If Trump Republicans gain control of the Senate they could block President Biden’s appointments to the US Supreme Court the way they did when President Obama nominated Merrick Garland in 2016.

Helping Sen. Cortez Masto get re-elected is essential for taking back the Supreme Court from Trumpist extremists.

Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto wins Nevada Senate race

Nevada incumbent Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto survived a challenge, defeating Republican Adam Laxalt and helping Democrats hold onto U.S. Senate, according to the Associated Press call of the race.

Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto has won re-election from Nevada. That gives Democrats at least a 50-50 tie in the Senate with Vice President Harris casting the deciding vote. Though the Georgia runoff in early December could raise the total of Democrats in the upper chamber to 51 seats.

Nevada was one of Republicans' top targets as they tried to break the Senate's 50-50 split, and Cortez Masto's reelection was a toss-up coming into the election. She was running neck and neck with Laxalt, Nevada's former attorney general who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

Cortez Masto served two terms as Nevada's attorney general before becoming the first Latina ever elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016. She campaigned on women's reproductive rights, criticizing Laxalt for calling the Roe v Wade decision "a joke," the Nevada Independent reported, and categorizing a vote for her opponent as an "automatic vote for a federal abortion ban."

Even by GOP standards, Adam Laxalt was a snivelling hypocrite.

Less than one month before the election, 14 members of Laxalt's family wrote a three-page letter endorsing his opponent, the Nevada Independent reported. The letter praises Cortez Masto and her positions on women's issues and public land preservation, her record as attorney general and more.

At least with the US Senate, the “red wave” went down the drain.

And of course the Sore-Loser-in-Chief just had to weigh in.

Republicans have nominated some truly awful candidates for the US Senate this year. In addition to Herschel Walker, there’s Dr. Öz (Pennsylvania) and the odious J.D. Vance (Ohio).

In Nevada, Republican Adam Laxalt was caught saying Roe v. Wade was a “joke”. That shouldn’t do him any good in a state that’s essentially pro-choice.

In Missouri, the disgraced Eric Greitens is in contention for an open US Senate seat in the upcoming GOP primary. He has been accused of sexual assault and domestic violence. He resigned as governor to avoid impeachment.

So Democrats should put in additional effort to try to pick up a couple more Senate seats and make their majority “Sinemanchin-proof” in the process.
