Hello, @sketchy-saram, and happy belated Valentine’s! I was your cupid for @thearcanasecretcupid, and I gotta say that Celeste is adorable! I hope you had a good heart’s day, and I hope you enjoy your gift!
Summary: Julian whisks Celeste off to a secret location for a romantic Valentine’s date.
[Note: The term ‘ зайка ’ used by Julian near the end is a Russian endearment meaning something along the lines of bunny or precious.]
Celeste laughed softly as Julian stumbled behind her, his fingers almost slipping from in front of her eyes. They’d been walking for a bit now, and it was almost comedic. They probably looked like a sight, traipsing down the lane with Julian leading her from behind with his hands firm over his lids.
“Julian, why didn’t you just blindfold me? It would have made this all a lot easier.”
The doctor sputtered for a moment before letting out a huff. “I- well, I didn’t think about that. I forgot how far it was to our destination. But, fear not! We’re almost there!”
Almost turned out to be another ten minutes. At the very least, Julian began talking to fill the little void of silence that had been consuming the two. He babbled happily about the weather holding and how excited he was for her to see what he’d planned for the two of them. Celeste couldn’t help laughing again when Julian very nearly uncovered her eyes again to engage his hands into his animated chatter.
Finally, the two came to a halt and Julian took a deep breath. “Ready for your surprise, love?” Celeste nodded. “Alright… One, two… Three!”
The doctor pulled his hands away, and Celeste blinked a couple of times as her eyes adjusted to the dim light. The two stood at the edge of a small ‘courtyard’, bordered by homes of the South End. A long dried fountain, once used to supply water to the neighborhood, was decorated with colorful candles in glass jars to light the space. On the edge sat a picnic basket, and upon closer inspection, it became apparent that there was a little assortment of pillows in the wide trough of the fountain.
Julian moved to stand beside Celeste, taking her hand gently in his own. “Do you, uh… like it? I spent all day getting everything together and setting up and making sure the fountain was-”
Celeste turned and placed a finger on Julian’s lips, stopping him mid-sentence. “It’s perfect, Ilya. I don’t just like it, I love it.” She leaned up, replacing her finger with her lips to give him a soft kiss before tugging him over to the fountain.
The two settled into their little nest, getting comfortable before Celeste reached for the picnic basket. Julian smiled as they unpacked the basket, settling in with two jars of Mazelinka’s soup and a still-warm loaf of bread.
Even when the sun set, Julian and Celeste stayed curled up in their bundle of pillows and blankets and bliss. Together, the two traced constellations, barely even noticing as the candles winked out one by one.
As the last light finally burned down, Julian took a deep breath, feeling for the pocket of his pants.
“Celeste, my зайка, my moon, my world. You’ve… brought me so far. I’m who I am because you believed in me. You stayed by my side all this time, through so many trials. I didn’t exactly make it easy on you, either. So I thought we might make it a bit easier? If you’d like, I thought we might-”
Julian cut off as Celeste shifted in his arms, looking down to see if he needed to move for her. A soft smile spread on his lips as he noticed she had drifted off to sleep. Julian pressed a soft kiss to her forehead and pulled the blankets closer around them before slipping the small ring box back into his pocket. Next time, he thought, I’ll try asking earlier in the night...
