Mature, Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Adar has declared himself King of Mordor. And a King is always in need of a herald. Unfortunately, he has his eyes set on one herald in particular. There is nothing that would make Gil-Galad part with his herald, except that Adar has promised to recall his children to Mordor and trouble the peoples of Middle-Earth no longer. He will also lend his army in the fight against Sauron.
And though Elrond feels that he would sooner die, it is painfully clear what the lesser of the two evils are, and the whole of Middle-Earth is at stake. Besides, they only need a few months in order to defeat Sauron, once they have done that then he will be able to return to Lindon for good. This is just a temporary sacrifice. And his dear friend and brother Prince Durin will not be far away.
AU that takes place just after Season 2 Episode 1, when Elrond is working at the boathouse, but just before Galadriel goes to talk to him about joining the mission to Eregion.
Explicit works below the cut! :)

After the Battle of Eregion, Adar takes Elrond and the ring Nenya as his spoils of war.
A bit late for Adarond week, and for day 5, I'm late for everything, but I wanted to end on a sweet note.
This is also part of the summer camp!AU, it's short. very fluffy and domestic. Adar and Elrond do flirt because of who they are.
The smell of coffee
Elrond woke up to the delicious smell of fresh coffee. He turned in his bunk and found Adar pouring hot water into two mugs. He laid there a few seconds: Adar was focused on his ask, which made it the perfect opportunity to watch him unobserved.
Everything about him was mysterious and interesting. The scar going from his ear to his upper lip, raised and jagged the other marks on his arms and, now Elrond could see, on his chest, the hauntings of an unspeakable pain. The tattoos, all blackwork, looking like the etchings of old, all symbols of strength and protection: the wolf head, the tower, the knight… Two names with dates that Elrond could already guess although a was a little too far to read. Elrond should have felt more daunted by him, and a little part of him was, but… it was difficult to be daunted when the man was making him a cup of coffee in their shared cabin.
“Enjoying the view?” Adar’s hoarse voice brought him back to reality.
Elrond felt himself blush immediately, caught staring: “The coffee looks delicious,” he said, raising, trying to push his hair in a semblance of order.
“It’s not the only thing,” Adar replied with a small smile.
It was teasing yes, but not in a way that made it tense or dangerous or salacious. It was comfortable teasing, as if their shared attraction was already a settled fact. And it was, Elrond couldn’t help but think, they had admitted as much on the pier.
Elrond got down the ladder, feeling ridiculous as he did so. It felt childish somehow, and it made him self-conscious. When he turned back, he watched as Adar’s eyes darted away from him, caught staring in turn. Maybe there was still some tension there, Elrond thought as he leaned on the little island separating the beds from the tiny sink. He tested Adar’s staring and licked his lips, watching with a secret delight as his pale blue eyes darkened.
“Thanks for the coffee, I didn’t know we had a kettle,” Elrond mumbled, still waking up.
We.
We, already.
We, in this tiny cabin, sharing a cup of coffee, sharing a moment before the day started, just the two of them.
“They don’t, I brought it because it’s easier to make something quick in the cabin before heading out.”
“Smart,” Elrond commented before taking a sip. “Oof, hot.”
“Yes to both,” Adar teased him again and Elrond rolled his eyes playfully at him.
“Do the kids take after you or do you take after them?” Adar asked with a smile.
Elrond groaned, rearranging his tank top absent-mindedly: “Too early for chicken or egg questions.”
Adar chuckled and let the subject go. He sipped his coffee in silence, still staring at Elrond who was starting to blush a little under the scrutiny. He tried hard not to, but he couldn’t help but imagine slow mornings with Adar, waking up in the same bed, kissing lazily, rubbing on each other, how good would those arms feel around him? And then wandering in the kitchen for coffee and a late breakfast.
“What do we have planned for today?” Adar asked, finishing up his coffee.
“In the morning, we have Bungalow Two for a canoe tour on the river and in the afternoon, we have the play’s rehearsal. We have scenes 3 and 4,” Elrond recited the schedule.
“And chapter 8 of A Wizard of Earthsea tonight,” Adar reminded him.
Elrond couldn’t help but smile, a huge, sincere smile, as warmth filled his chest. He was delighted that Adar remembered not only the book, but also the chapter and even seemed to look forward to it. Elrond tried to hide his smile in his coffee, but he knew he wasn’t being very successful as Adar was smiling back at him.
Elrond finally had a name for it, the smell of coffee, the sunlight streaming through the window on the tiny kitchen island, the distant noises of the children waking up for the day. It was home.
Sharing a snippet of one of my WIPs for @adarondweek --Osculation Overdue. It's a modern AU featuring Librarian Elrond and Single Dad Adar, so definitely more lighthearted than my usual fare but still plenty of sexual tension.
"Yes,” the librarian agreed. “I can see you and your wife have quite the handful at home.”
The man gave a flustered laugh. “Oh, I don’t have a wife. It’s just me…”
Elrond’s eyes widened in surprise. “You have to manage all those kids on your own? You must be exhausted!”
The father leaned against the desk with a conspiratorial tone. “Constantly…let’s just say I have no trouble falling asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow at night.”
The image of this man in bed did strange things to Elrond. He envisioned that long dark hair strewn across a pillow but quickly shook his head to clear his thoughts. He should not be fantasizing about a library patron, and he should not be so relieved to learn that said patron did not have a wife.
“Well, if you ever need a break from the chaos,” he said, tentatively tucking an errant curl behind one ear. The man’s eyes tracked the movement. “You’re always welcome to bring them to the library.”
This offer was met with a long, smoldering silence, and those blue eyes raked down Elrond’s body before the man spoke.
“Always good to know where I’m welcome,” he rasped. “I’m Adar by the way.”
Another (and very delayed!) contribution to @adarondweek
“You are blinded by your own ambition, you will kill them Adar” Adar heard the step of an armoured, plated foot move in the silence towards him, further closing the space between them. The voice continued its onslaught, becoming more impassioned but also neglectful in its volume. His beloved wordsmith forgetting in his passion, that walls have ears and you never knew what lurked in the darkness.

I canon Elrond to be a space cadet when the environment is relaxed.
He just can unwind and let his mind drift allowing it to be easily distracted. I canon this guy to have ADHD really bad when younger. It mellows out when he's older though. Attention Deficit is definitely the way he leans when he's not forced to hype focus during high tension times. I canon this to be the case in every AU I throw him into.
This is definitely not one of those high tension times. ⬇️ (Modern AU setting based off of a moment that happens in an RP with my Tumblr bestie @withallthatisleftofmyheart )
Setting: Adar and his son are at Elrond's house while their young elementary school children play in the yard. Elrond was in the middle of jabbing on about gardening or something. He attempts to use the jibber jabber to distract himself from how hot Adar is. spaces out hard mid word with a vacant look in his eyes just getting lost in the sweetness that he sees hidden in Adar's eyes.
Elrond inside: 'behind that stoic handsome face is a loving father... The way he cares so deeply for his son is just so incredibly beautiful. And look at those kind eyes... There's more to him than the tough outer shell '
Elrond outwardly: Sighs dreamily. He looks into Adar's eye's. "Such a cutie". He gets a goofy love sick smile as his eyes still glaze over lost in the daydream.
Adar: "Oh really? Am I now?" Looks Elrond over quite impressed. "You're a looker too." He smirks wider.
Elrond: Snaps back to reality. "Hum?? I'm so sorry what was I saying," he seriously was not aware he spilled some of his thoughts.
Adar inside: 'I wonder if he is interested in men? Those lips look delicious... And soft... And his face is ughhh....' *seriously struggles to restrain the urge to kiss him right then and there.* - Elrond's airy behavior is just too cute for its own good.-
I'm woefully unprepared for Adarond week @adarondweek, but it is just too tempting not to write for them, so have a little something I wrote for the first prompt. I allowed myself to be a little bit more poetic for this one!
**
Elrond hadn’t even thought of Adar as a person before he met him. Adar had been a word, a banner, a mythical figure, shrouded in darkness and black blood. Adar had been a threat, a problem to solve, a shadow spreading over a complex map.
Then Adar had been a black spot on the horizon, standing in front of a menacing army of fierce warriors, an opponent, an adversary against whom the courtier would whet his Commander’s sword.
Finally, Adar had become a choice. Mercy or ruthlessness. To fight with his sword or his words. To yield and lose or to stand tall at the risk of breaking. To accept there was a darkness lurking within him, straining to get out and play to the tune of his dark, hoarse voice, or to retreat into the light.
To fight with a kiss or with the promise of spilled black blood.
After the kiss he had pressed to Galadriel’s lips, Elrond stood face to face with Adar, contemplating his choices under the piercing gaze of the Moriondor. His breath on his face felt like a veil threatening, promising to engulf him in a seductive world of darkness. For a second, Adar frowned and suddenly, he wasn’t just an idea, a threat, a piece with a complex plan on an already complex map. He was flesh, he was the smell of myrrh, he was lips. He was still.
Elrond nodded, trying to shake his bothersome thoughts. Silence was a choice, an answer. There was nothing left to say.
“Wait!” Adar called, as soon as Vorohil had left him to meet with Durin’s army. Elrond removed his foot from the stirrup.
**
The first time Adar saw the Commander, he recognized him immediately. He knew him, from the half-faded memories of another life. He knew him from the stars shining in his eyes, from the delicate curve of his thin lips, from the sharpness of his words and the softness of his voice.
He was wise as Melian, strong as Luthien, brave as Eärendil. He was as desperate as all of them when faced with a darkness deeper than his own. He was the barely faded beauty of a world he had turned his back to. He was the cruel promise of this world back within arm’s reach where his grasp would only bruise it.
He was the doom Adar had always known would come for him. And here he was, in Adar’s most desperate hour, when everything hinged on how well he could hold his plan for his children.
Elrond looked at him as a mystery to decipher, but Adar saw in him the familiarity of his deepest desire: beauty and doom.
His treachery, the slipping of the pin of his cloak, was new however. There was the scent of mortality on him, familiar but unexpected. He smelled like horses and sage, like scrolls and swords. Like a fight and a kiss.
When Elrond turned to him, finally alone in his war camp, his brow shone as if adorned with one of the three cursed stones. His loveliness, just like Melian’s, would put them all to shame. Adar walked to him, forcing the Commander to take a step back until they were half-hidden behind his white horse.
“You gave Galadriel a kiss and promised her death,” Adar told him with a smirk, bravado to cover his awe, “you promised me death but seem to have forgotten my kiss.”
Elrond opened his mouth to protest but Adar bent his head, pressing a kiss to Melian’s, to Luthien’s, to Eärien’s, to Elrond’s lips. Elrond stilled beneath his attentions and, as Adar’s tongue licked at his lips, the Moriondor swore he could have felt him tilt his chin to offer him more. Adar bit at Elrond’s lower lip, tasting bittersweet mint tea, before letting him go.
“I will find you again on the battlefield,” Adar threatened, or promised, that was a choice Elrond would have to make.
For the first time that night, his body began to relax, his breaths slowed, the anxiety that rattled in his chest calmed and his shoulders dropped just a fraction.
Is this what everyone felt when they went clubbing or was it just this place, he wondered.
Right there, being in the moment, Elrond closed his eyes as his senses began to absorb everything he had been too hyper focused on to enjoy and appreciate earlier as he searched for Galadriel.
The music subtly changed into a slower, softer beat. Elrond relaxed further into the wall, his breathing steadied, a slight buzz echoed rhythmically into his chest. His ears recognised the melody of the new song and his fingers subconsciously began to tap in rhythm, the hum of a melody at the back of his throat.
“Enjoying yourself? an amused, deep voice inquired.
