Was finishing up adashima SS2 and for like 90% of that final chapter i genuinely, unironically thought shimamura had dementia, took until adachi walked straight from snow to like a park in spring to realise it was her in the.. afterlife(?) i assume thats what it is ToT

Yall ever just cozy up for the night and go to read a cute, wholesome, slice of life romance series, and then it hits you with a flash forward like this

Adachi and Shimamura is just the book equivalent of that one friend thats always super wholesome and innocent and you assume that they can only house the purest godly thoughts in their head, and then one day they just randomly drop a dirty joke like its nothing and everyone else is left in shock

adachi and shimamura is fascinating because it's not "doomed yuri" or "toxic yuri" but it's written in such a way that it feels like it's inevitably headed for an ending where adachi dies of cancer and shimamura shoots up the remainder of her morphine scrip and lies down in the hospital bed next to her*. the number of afterwords where the author alludes to his casual suicidal ideation doesn't help
