A Break From Vaca to Reflect
Let's take a break for a minute to sit back and reflect. I will post a message on the rest of today after this, but I need to write down what I'm currently feeling...and that is amazement. Tonight as I watched M fall asleep I got that feeling, the "wow, I'm a mom and you are my amazing son." Tonight it was more than that though. Tonight it was, "Seriously, how did I get this far and this lucky?" I'm vacationing in the mountains with my family for a week, I'm getting the chance to offer my son what many families can only dream of, a week away to do nothing but have fun. Take a step back for a minute to understand why the Adirondacks mean so much to me. My grandparents, the two that did more for me than I could ever imagine, brought me here years ago for that same purpose: fun. I have never forgotten the memories of riding the ski lift over the Enchanted Forest, or the red with silver star wand I got at Santa's Workshop. In fact, I bet if you look hard enough in my mother's attic you may even find that wand. Granted M is a little too young to remember the parks like I do (don't worry, we're coming back,) but I know that he will remember this for as long as his brain allows. He will remember the day we went play ground hopping, the day he rode the carousel, and the baby ducks he saw up close at the park. I will remember the day I realized, again, just how fortunate I am. This trip is far from over; many memories remain to be created, but at this moment, this reflection on where I stand, an amazing husband beside me, the happiest little boy asleep in the next room, and the fact that we are in one of the most beautiful and natural places in our country, I am the luckiest woman in the world!
